I spent alot of time and money on shows this year to see both Mary Poppins and Curtains, I hope one of them will recieve a Tony. If not, since their is Grey Gardens and Spring Awakening to battle against. DO you you any of the actors or actresses from those two shows will win In your opinion?

And If I am totally wrong, what shows Should I see next to achieve my goal of seeing a show before a tony win?

Mary Poppins won't win, and I doubt that any actors or actresses will win from it (Gavin Lee MIGHT be nominated).

Curtains should take a few awards home.

Christine Ebersole from Grey Gardens will take Best Actress.

They'll probably get some technical awards. Curtains for set maybe?

Mary Poppins or Curtains For Best Musical? ... umm, neither! Much as I enjoyed Curtains, I can't see it winning Best Musical. I'd be very surprised if Spring Awakening doesn't walk away with it this year.

But I'd also be VERY disappointed if David Hyde Pierce doesn't walk away with the Best Actor award. re: Mary Poppins or Curtains For Best Musical He's fantastic! re: Mary Poppins or Curtains For Best Musical

I don't know about Mary Poppins not winning. In fact, if it's nominated, it would most likely win, as it would be the production with the most Tony-favored elements.

Mary Poppins won't be nominated. Sorry.

I think Curtains could take it, though.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

The other hot shows for the Tonys (besides Curtains) that have opened are

Grey Gardens
Spring Awakening

The shows yet to open that will depend on their reveiws are

Legally Blonde
LoveMusik

I don't think The Pirate Queen will earn the kind of reveiws that will get it many nominations.

I have several names, one is Julian2. I am also The Opps Girl. But cross me, and I become Bitch Dooku!

I'd be surprised if MP was nominated. Curtains doesn't have a chance of winning. Raul will beat David.

It will be a tight race between Spring and Gardens. As for noms, Legally Blonde and LoveMusik will likely fill the slots out. I'd be suprised if Pirate Queen is recognized.

I actually don't see much competition in SA or GG, neither seems to have a future past their Broadway runs, as good as they are - it would pretty much depend what shows go are against.

I can't see either of those winning. Too hard a sell in the heartlands.

If Legally Blonde proves to be good, I forsee that or Curtains winning.

Oh, that's not my opinion. I think Curtains has a shot. It's from the first post. I felt compelled to help the grammar.

Wow, I think I would have to stop watching the Tonys if Mary Poppins--great for kids, but boring--or Curtains--fun but hardly amazing-- won! It will be Spring Awakening, with Grey Gardens close behind, unless Legally Blonde is every bit as good as, say, Hairspray!

Every voter I've spoken to, even though BLONDE has yet to open, plans on voting for SPRING. That show could sell to the mid-west.

BLONDE would have to be much better than HAIRSPRAY to beat either SPRING AWAKENING or GREY GARDENS.

It could happen, but if it does then it proves that the Tony's no longer reflect NY theatre, but only reflect the Touring voters.

I really don't think SPRING will go over well in the red states. And touring producers know that.

That's what they said about RENT. Hmmm. It'll be interesting to see and by far one of the more competitive Tony seasons on record.

Should be a good show.

After watching them all (except LoveMusik)

I think nominated will be

Legally Blonde
Grey Gardens
Curtains
Spring Awakening

I think Legally Blonde would have a good chance(based on the San Francisco production and spring awakening has a good chance to(i really don,t think curtains will get it)

Mary Poppins and Pirate Queen wont get nominated

Umm... neither. I loved Curtains. Loved it. Great Kander and Ebb songs, flashy design elements, hard working, talented cast. But is it as good as Grey Gardens? Certainly not.
And Mary Poppins, which I had quite a bit of affection for across the pond has been completely dumbed down for us. Completely.
As of this moment, Grey Gardens should take the prize. It is a masterpiece.

What a Year. well yes, unless you remember years in the sixties when 20 musicals would open on Broadway, and the best four were nominated without the tour voters.
Who gave them the vote anyway?

My fav this year, so far is GREY GARDENS
then,
PIRATE QUEEN
CURTAINS
and
SPRING AWAKENING
next
looking forward to
LEGALLY BLONDE
and
LOVE/MUSIC

But I wish there had been 14 more musicals in a season to enjoy.
oh well...

Just for the sake of being 'bold' and 'different' - Being the HUGE Kurt Weill fan that I am, and not downsizing the credibility of Mr. Cerveris, Ms. Murphy and the legendary, Harold Prince, I have high hopes of LOVEmusik getting some GREAT press ... with hopes of a solid following, hmm? Dark horse? I think so. It'll be somethin' to see, though!

It's been a GREAT season thus far, and can I only imagine that come June, come TONY time, it'l be super wonderful to be a part of! Stay true to yourselves and each other.

Best,

Curtains has a fairly good chance of a nomination, but not a win. Mary Poppins will probably only get choreography and sets. MAYBE Gavin will get a nod, but not a win. Nothing else is worthy of a nomination from Mary Poppins. Blaxx, what are the Tony favored elements that Mary Poppins had? IMO, it was one of the most disappointing shows I've seen -- 2nd only to The Lion King. The Tony committee generally hasn't liked Disney's efforts, and I don't feel that the elements of Mary Poppins are even as good as Beauty and the Beast was, and Beauty was basically shutout from noms. It got 5 or 6, but only won for costumes. It wasn't even nominated for Best Musical, which was a slap in Disney's face.
