Thursday Matinee?

I'm going to be in NYC Wed-Thursday 22-23 of August, mainly to see theatre. Im definitely gonna take advantage of the 2 and 8 o clock shows on Wednesday, but we're leaving Thursday at 8 PM There doesn;t ahppen to be any show that offers a thursday matinee or an earlier curtain on Thursday? If not (which is probably the case) are there any fun events etc. going on that Thursday that anyoen knows about?

For now their are no thursday Matinee but being that is a show during the week A lot of shows such as Phantom, and Sweeney Todd offer very cheap seats for monday to thursday shows. Phantom offers 26.25 seats and sweeney offfers 36.25 if you are looking for cheap seats you can also check TKTS, Broadwaybox.com and theatermania.com

I know this is a little off topic, but there WERE Thursday matinees back in the golden years of the 40s and 50s.

i no this is no help but shows in London have Thursday Matinee's, Mary Poppins and Billy Elliott have them.

theres the broadway show league- softball games in central park and broadway in bryant park- concerts featuring songs from broadway shows, both starting in the afternoon and finally seth's chatterbox from 6-7pm at dont tell mama-interviewing bway stars.

i love thursdays.

Some theatres in DC have Thursday matinees too. I wish others did - it would be nice to have a variety of choices on different days of the week. (It would give the actors in the other shows a chance to check out the competition too!)

Bumping this thread to see what shows have Thursday matinees. I know Phantom and Cagney have Thursday matinees, but does anyone know others? Coming in for a short trip at the end of the month and trying to maximize the number of shows I can fit in. Thanks!

Not sure if any unopened shows will join them, but this week, Phantom and Cats had Thursday matinees...

I saw that, but it looks like it won't be a recurring thing for Cats. Not a huge fan of ALW so hoping another show pops up in addition to Cagney. Thanks!

I have always been dumbfounded that more shows don't have a matinee besides Wednesday especially during the holidays or summer. There are plenty of tourists in town looking for a show on Thursdays or even Fridays.

I don't understand why different shows don't choose different days of the week for their matinees. Phantom is currently (I think) the only show on Broadway that does a Thursday matinee, so they have absolutely no competition for that day. Why do so many shows follow similar schedules, when that increases competition for ticket dollars?

I agree.  Especially the shows that are struggling, they could fill the house by offering a matinee on a different day. I have caught Annie, Mamma Mia, and Phantom as a Thursday matinee and the theater was filled.

Exactly! How many threads have you read around here that start off with something like, "I'm going to be in NY for three days and I have one spot left, help me decide which of these shows I should see..."? If different shows had different matinee (and dark) days, interested members of the public would have more opportunities to see more shows.

I am one of those.  When I book my trips, I plan it around seeing the most amount of shows in the fewest days.  Usually I arrive Wednesday morning and leave Sunday night.  I would die to find a Thursday or Friday matinee for those trips. I even look at off Broadway and can't find a matinee on those days.

We seem to be a lot alike in this regard. It's very frustrating for me to have "wasted" days in my stay, when I could be seeing something that I am instead missing out on because all the shows follow the same performance schedule!

I never understood why people would come from away only to see shows, although like many here that is my primary purpose.  I like to do Tuesday through Thursday, see three shows, and on Thursday do something different.  Do a museum, hang out in Central Park or explore a neighborhood that interests me (lower Manhattan)  See a Yankee game (they're on the road the week you'll be here).  Be a tourist, it's fun.
