Does anyone think Cyndi has a chance at least a Tony nomination this year? I'm not sure if this has been discused before but I just saw THREEPENNY for the 4th time the other day and each time she astounds me at how wonderful her performance is. Her rendition of "Solomon's Song" alone should get her the award, but I'm curious what others think since the show wasn't received as well as I believe it should have been.

Yes, I think she has a very good chance for a nomination, but not a win...

She's pretty much the only thing getting good reviews, so I think she'll be a lock for at least a nomination.

There is a good chance she will be nominated, but is extremely hard to get a win from a panned show...unless you are john lithgow!

Haven't seen much on Broadway this year but her rendition of Solomon's Song alone would get my vote - just incredible.

Best Featured Actress (Musical) will be something along the lines of:
Amy Spanger, THE WEDDING SINGER
Felicia P. Fields, THE COLOR PURPLE
Elizabeth Withers-Mendes, THE COLOR PURPLE
Sutton Foster, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE
Beth Leavel, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE

will possible spoilers coming from:
Megan Lawrence, THE PAJAMA GAME
Cyndi Lauper, THE THREEPENNY OPERA
Donna Lynne Champlin, SWEENEY TODD

I think Megan Lawrence has a better chance of being nominated than Sutton Foster. And I definitely think Cyndi will (and deserves) to be nominated, for her "Solomon Song" alone.

I'm glad so many of you agree with me on her performance of "Solomon". I asked at the theatre the other day and was told a cast album was in fact in the works, and I absolutely can't wait for it for that song alone.

Thank goodness there is a cast recording in the works because I'm dying to hear Cyndi's "Solomon Song" and "The Ballad of the Pimp" again. This cast was too good to not be preserved on recording.

"Solomon" is the musical highlight of the show, notable for having no directorial flourishes, add-ons, or quotations marks around it. (If only the rest of the show was staged with a similar trust of the material... Scott Elliot never met an italicized moment he didn't like.)

Lauper gets my vote for a nod. I was most startled by her natural acting. Get her another role, Broadway.

I don't think Spanger or Foster will be nominated.

I think Beth Leavel and Felicia P. Fields are locks. The other three spots are between Megan Lawrence, Cyndi Lauper, Donna Lynne Champlin, and Elizabeth Withers-Mendes. I do think Lauper's chances are higher than the other three, and that Lawrence will probably get a spot too. The last spot, I think, will be between Withers-Mendes and Champlin.

Don't forget about Roz Ryan too!

If any woman gets a nom from Sweeney Todd for featured, it will definitely be Lauren Molina, who is playing a fully-fleshed out Johanna, perhaps the first one to ever grace NYC.
Donna is doing wonderful things on that stage but being impressed by playing the flute and accordion isn't going to get it for her.

Cyndi deserves the win. But, whatever.

Champlin is more likely to get a nomination than Molina. My predictions for Best Featured Actress are exacly like WiCkEDrOcKS except I predict that Champlin will get a nomination over Spanger. We need to wait for the press's response to THE WEDDING SINGER before we can really determine if Spanger or Finley will get nominations, though.

THREEPENNY has been pretty much panned by critics. Lauper may have a shot at a nomination, but she most likely will not win. There have not been universal raves for her in all the reviews.

For those of you saying that Foster will not get a nomination, be aware that the Tony committee loves her and her "Show Off" number is one of the highlights of the show. She is pretty much a lock.

I also think Megan Lawrence has a real shot at a nomination because in addition to her work in PJ, she was fantastic in TWO GENTLEMEN in the park last summer.

There also seems to be a lot of good will towards Lauper in the theatre community, so she could score a nom, even though the show got panned and her reviews weren't universal raves.

Because it's so tight, anything could happen in this catagory. Expect surprises and snubs.

Maybe she will take over as Lovett!

Like Mano in Sweeney, I don't get all the hoopla over Lauper in Threepenny. I loved, loved her rendition of "Solomon" but a Tony win, really? Besides, Ana Gasteyer and Nellie McKay have the showier parts.

Yeah, but Nellie is lead, no?

And Ana shouldn't get one...

Lauper played three different roles.
Her sexy MACK THE KNIFE JENNY.
Her dark SOLOMON SONG Jenny.
And her New Yawker Jenny.

Thanks, I did see the show. But watching Lauper's performance didn't make me think she deserved a Tony. That's what I'm saying.

Little Sally, you say "thank goodness there's a recording in the works." I know many people are clamoring for it, but I hadn't heard it was going to happen. What do you know about it?

Actually I think Donna was amazing in Sweeney, her focus is amazing. Lauren is great, no doubt, but I was actually more impressed with Donna.
