I emailed Stephen Schwartz and got a reply. Nothing in writing, though.
The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

I haven't written to her since she was in Wicked, but I got a letter from Adinah Alexander about 2 weeks after I sent it.

Do you put the return address of the theater on the SASE, or do you just leave it blank?

I usually just leave it blank...
That's the sorrowful precis. It's very messy.

lately ive left it blank so then when i get something back, i dont know who i've gotten it back from till i open the envelope...sort of like a suprise

but i was wondering, does JLY still send headshots from email requests? i requested a signed headshot for my sister as a suprise for her in an email to him like a month ago, and havent gotten anything, so i was just wondering...

I usually leave the return address blank, but I know some people put their own address there, so they are sure to get it back either way.

I don't think JLY accepts any e-mails anymore. This is what he posted in his blog a little less than a month ago:

"I took another stab at e-mail. I'm sorry -- I don't think I can keep up! I have 42 pages of unanswered e-mail from friends and fans, and I intended to answer it, but I have to stop promising. So I appreciate all the warmth and support, but I can only answer if you send me a letter. Look for my mailing address on my contact page, and I look forward to being in touch: the old fashioned way."

How do you send things to be signed by people who are not in shows anymore? Is it possible? For example John Lithgow and Kristin Chenoweth. Thanks.

I've only written to Alan Menken. I sent two song books and a BATB lobby card and he signed all three (even wrote out a couple of bars of "Beauty and the Beast" on the poster.) They were returned to me rather quickly.

I prefer to hand deliver envelopes at the stage door. I usually write them a letter and tape it to a SASE and hand it to them after we talk. I have had good relationships with the Sweeney cast, so most of them have had headshots for me when I see them at the stagedoor, like a surprise, and then would say "I knew you'd be back. Here, I'd like you to have this, but for people like Patti, I gave her a letter and got a nice personalized headshot 3 DAYS later.

Does anyone know if you hand a letter to someone at the box office, it'll get to the person you wrote to? I'm going to try that with my letter I wrote to the cast of Spelling Bee, since it didn't get to the theatre when I tried mailing it.

That's really weird that you got it sent back to you. I believe that's the same address I used, because I got mine off of either playbill.com or broadway.com.

If you're worried about the letters not making it to the actors maybe you could give it to them personally after a show one day? Even if you don't go to see it. I've done that before when I've been to NYC. It's worth a shot!
