I went to the matinee show of SPAMalot today. I went in seeing parts of the Holy Grail movie.. but not really knowing what to expect. I thought the show was hysterical and it kept me entertained for the whole show.. which some shows have a hard time doing for me. I had to stop myself from laughing at some parts because you were going to miss the next line that would crack you up the same.

Of course, Sara Ramirez wasn't in it.. but I wasn't expecting to see her in it.. Her understudy ( I don't remember her name off hand) was amazing. Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, Christopher Sieber, and the rest of the cast did a wonderful job as well. They all seem like they're having so much fun it.

At the stage door, all of the above came out, except for Tim Curry. But everyone was super sweet.. and I know people ask from time to time when cast members are taking vacation, someone next to me asked David Hyde Pierce, and he's taking vacation in mid- September.. so heads up for anyone seeing it then.

All in all, I thought it was a great show and I'm very excited I saw it. :)

A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

Sara's standby is Rosena M. Hill. Glad to see she's doing well in the role!

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

When I saw it, everyone, except Tim and Sara, signed for the entire crowd. David signed for everyone and was more than gracious with taking pictures, etc. From what I've heard he does that every night. Have fun!

Great cast; but that aside, I was kind of disappointed in SPAMALOT. It's on my list of very overrated shows. I realize it's Monty Python humor, but it's way too silly in some parts. Most of the music is forgettable except for DHP's and SR's songs. But I'm sure the hype will carry it for a long time.

I just wonder why the critics didn't pull this one apart for being a rip off of both a movie and TV show and not "real broadway." Instead they gave it a Tony. Kind of makes you wonder what is up with the critics and Tony voters.

I totally agree. I thought this show was totally overrated. I thoroughly enjoyed Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce and Christopher Sieber but I did not think it was that funny. Maybe it is the British humor but I thought Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was much funnier.
