Hey everyone!

This musical got great reviews in the readings back in 2003 on offical sites and on this very bww board! It's got a limited run (May 20-27) so please hurry to it! Our very own Altar couple Kevin Kern and Megan Lawrence did the reading in the past for Bill and Hillary and Megan is playing Hillary again!

*****
Page 73 Productions presents Monica! The Musical, featuring book and lyrics by Daniel J. Blau and Tracie Potochnik, with music by Adam Blau. Casey Hushion directs, with musical direction by Nadia DiGiallonardo.

In the face of the national scandal that was the Clinton-Lewinsky affair, Monica! The Musical dares to answer the crucial questions: Exactly how did something this ridiculous happen? And why did we care so much? The answers are presented in song with a generous helping of postmodern imagination, libelous implications, and some fresh insight that only time can bring. This bold satire mixes past and current D.C. politics with the best (and sometimes worst) of musical theater as it examines our relationship to scandal and human frailty.

Appropriate For Ages: 15 and up

okay so i guess i'll indulge myself with a review. i went to see "Monica! The Musical" last night and it was hysterical! first off, i'm not the biggest political person and i don't know much about Bill's life and did not read "My Life" or anything but i got almost all of the double entendres and sly wit so i'd recommend it for a wide audience demographic. the cast was phenomenal and their voices were all clear and crisp without mics. The stage is in a converted room so i think it seats about 100-150. i hear that seats are almost sold out for the rest of the time until May 27th so i'll say it again, hurry to this show before it's gone!

my favorite songs were "Things You Can't Imagine" by Natalie Joy Johnson (Janet) and Megan Lawrence (Hillary) about their behind the doors attraction at Wellesley, "I Don't Know where I'm Going" where we first hear Christine DiGiallonardo (Monica) break out in song, "Access Denied" with Roz Beauty Davis (Betty Currie) and Ron DeStefano (George Stephanopoulos) and "Before there was You" with Duke Lafoon (Bill) and Megan as Hillary.

the opening number "I Have a Dream" where Bill is in Arkansas cracked me up! the entire cast played "farmhands" and danced around Bill. the choreography is adorable! props to the direct/choreographer Casey Hushion who is also the sweetest person! i met her briefly before and after the show. the second number where Bill and Hillary fall in love is incredibly catchy. i'm singing it right now "We're freaky-deaky and we're falling in love!" LOL their dancing at each other is the most hilarious choreography in the show! there's also a song about Bill's visit to London and the London girls are portrayed so...what can i say, correctly. big teeth and all! (haha i just spent a year studying abroad there.) i won't elaborate on my favorites just because you all have to see the show to believe it! it had me rolling!

the characters all shined especially Christine as Monica (of course, duh!) haha! i can just see her now, writing a letter to Tory Spelling. her voice is incredible and i can't believe her sound is so rich and filled that room without amplification. Duke is a great Bill, his accent is right on! and of course Megan and Natalie are quite a duo! they were my favorite supporting (leading?) ladies. i'm confused there because its about "Monica" but all the ladies were breathtaking. you girls make me want to practice law!! re: Monica! The Musical

the main site says this was a musical to answer questions like "Exactly how did something this ridiculous happen? And why did we care so much?" which it does in such a fun fashion i hope many of you have a chance to see for yourself! Bill had quite a life! i may have to read my roommate's copy of "My Life" now when i finally take a breather from Altar Boyz. (haha you guys thought i was going to finally go through a post without mentioning them huh? re: Monica! The Musical)

oh and i didn't mean to leave out the other gorgeous talented men from my comments. Eric LaJuan Summers (Vernon Jackson), Todd DuBail (Tom Jones) *why am i in just only one scene?* LOL, and Charlie Pollock as Ken Starr/Linda Tripp (oh that wig was dead on!) are awesome characters and they have a lot of time in the spotlight strutting their stuff. at $15, this has got to be one of the best values in town!

"...whoever made that musical is CRAZY. who would ever think of doing that? LOL"

Both Daniel J. Blau and Tracie Potochnik write TV show recaps at Television Without Pity. I've been reading Djb's recaps for years and he's a hilarious writer; I wish I could see the show.
