With the recent influx of Sondheim revivals (Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Assassins, Pacific Overtures, etc), will we be seeing a revival of Sunday in the Park With George anytime soon??? I have always loved this show, but it doesn't seem to be performed very often. Whom would you like to see cast???? Though I think both Mandy & Bernadette were sublime and could still reprise their original roles, I think Raul Esparza & Kristin Chenoweth would make an awesome pair. Thoughts???

Love Kristen, but do NOT want her in a Sunday revival.

Mandy and Bernadette in it now would be pushing it -- the characters are in their twenties. If/When it does happen, I'd like to see actors of those ages in the roles.

On second thought, I'd rather see Alice Ripley as Dot instead of Chenoweth.

Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin certainly weren't in their twenties when they did the show to begin with. Personally, I think this is Sondheim's worst show. The second act makes absolutely no sense (well, neither does the first act, but it's the more comprehensible of the two).

It is my favorite Sondheim show. I do not want Mandy or Bernadette to be cast in a revival. Time for new blood and a new take on the roles.

Audra MacDonald would be amazing in the role.

Audra did it at Rivinia.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" I've heard ROUNDABOUT is knocking around ideas for producing SUNDAY in the next couple of years.

I'd love to have seen McDonald as Dot at Ravinia. Whoever they cast in the role needs to have the earthy sensuality that Peters had and that Errico lacked. Dot shouldn't really be conventually beautiful. Errico looks like a 21st century model. Physically, I thought she was all wrong for it.

Emily Skinner would have been interesting in the role, but I wonder if anyone would commit to her doing a long run with her health issues.

Alice Ripley, definitely.

Of course, it'd be splendid to see Audra McDonald in the role, plus she's beloved by (almost) all and the blind casting would provide buzz for the production.

I was so annoyed with Errico in the role - she has a beautiful instrument - but her acting is SO controlled and technical - never makes me feel a thing. I DID like her in One Touch of Venus at Encores - but that role required an ice-princess - which I think she is better suited for.

I cringed when I saw Fosse76 say that it's Sondheim's worst show.

But, to each his Dulcinea...

It is my favorite Sondheim show (depending on which way the wind blows...) And the first and second acts makes tons of sense.

Gorgeously written.
Watch it again, Fosse76

Audra = perfection, so she is my top choice for this, whether it be revived tomorrow or in 10 years.

I'm getting a little tired of Cerveris stealing ALL of the Sondheim roles... so let's spread the wealth.

How about... Harvey Fierstein.
He can do anything, right?

Can you just imagine him singing "Finishing the Hat"?

*Cringe*. Just kidding.

How about.. Malcolm Gets?
I've never seen him live.. so I don't know.

Malcolm Gets and Audra McDonald... hmph...

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

Sunday is my favourite Musical.

It's BRILLIANTLY written!

But it does tend to go over the heads of many.........

How could anyone say this is Sondheim's worst show?

Obviously they've never seen Do I Hear A Waltz? or Bounce! or The Frogs...(and I happen to like all of these shows...)

And NOT Michael Cerveris! NO! Updated On: 4/28/05 at 02:11 PM

Raul and Melissa, I say.

While I don't think this is Sondheim's best show, I believe it to hold one of his finest scores. The second act has always been week (book-wise) but it's still a beautiful piece of theater. It truly touches on what making ART is.

Dear god, I would LOVE to see Sunday revived. And Raul would be wonderful. I'm not so sure about Kristin.

Michael Cerveris would be a great George, too. re: Sunday revival?

I am all for color blind casting, but not when it is factually inaccurate. So, I do not think Audra should play Dot.

For me, I just don't think Audra is right for the role, African American or not. I think Audra's stage charisma is different from that required for the role, and would work against the "earthy sensuality" that someone described earlier. From what I've heard about her performance at Ravinia, she was good but miscast.

Well Dot is a completely fictitious character, so its not exactly historically inaccurate.

And yes I realize that there is the factor of the image in the "La Grande Jatte" painting, but if you've ever seen it up close -- "Dot's" face is mostly -- purple.
