Which show????? I'm taking 3 people to London in the summer. What if we can only see one? What about if we can see two? Which one is the hottest ticket?
If you can only see one, go with THE WOMAN IN WHITE. I didn't really like MARY POPPINS, other than Laura Michelle Kelly. TWIW is great all around. Haven't seen BILL ELLIOT, though, so I really can't judge it. Hope this helps.
The thing is that I will see all three of them but I don't know if these 3 women can go to 3 shows even though we're there 5 nights. My mother is loyal to Elton John and Andrew Lloyd Webber though I thought MARRY POPPINS was THE show to see. Is it not? Something about ebing a Disney AND Mackintosh production made me think it was the show of the century. These guys also want spectacle and "big" shows.
well i would see billy elliot #1 because i love elton john's musical theatre scores and i think it has the least chance of the three to come to the us. woman in white is already planning a production here. so i would say mary poppins for number 2.
Good point - also, the children in the cast will be out of the show after six months and replaced by new kids. It's British law. So this summer is the only chance to see one of the original casts.
Mary Poppins is definitely bigger as far as spectacle and size. And also as far as heart, story, music, and talent. Woman In White is very mediocre Andrew lloyd Webber. Trust me.. you wont miss a thing.
I just have this impression of Chitty and Mary Poppins being like Beauty and the Beast - superficial kid fluff. I could be wrong - it's just my preconception that's turned me off of them.

You are right about Chitty and Beauty. But not about Mary Poppins. They really have created a wonderful musical that is not a copy of the movie and stands all on its own.. Do a google search of the reviews. A lot of them were right on.
