A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Delacorte |
I saw this a couple weeks ago, and I thought it was terrific all around. Great performances, a BEAUTIFUL set, knockout performances, etc. There was something so magical about seeing A Midsummer Night's Dream performed IN Central Park. The fireflies and the sun setting as the characters ventured into the forest was very special.
It was quite magical bwayphreak234! It was a beautiful clear night and the moon was out which was pointed to during the show.
I am not a Shakespeare fan but I have gone because I feel I need to see certain plays. This is the only one I have actually really wanted to see. I also enjoyed Cymboline a few years ago. Sat onstage and ended up with an actor in my lap.
I loved in this production that the fairies were all senior citizens. You just fell in love with them! I have a feeling Burstein is a bit of an onstage prankster. He caused Rashaad and other actors to almost lose it laughing at one point. It was nice to see her having fun onstage and she is just so regal and beautiful in person. De'Adre Aziza is stunningly gorgeous and it served her character well. So happy I saw this and would gladly go back.
Agree. I thought it was very inventive, especially having the fairies all as senior citizens in nightgowns. It was bold, but once I got over my shock, I found it worked very well. And the mechanicals (Bottom and co.) were exceptionally hilarious in this production.
If you can, totally get tickets and go.
