Oof. Gut punch.

That's what Jessica Lange said.
Too soon??"
This board really is insufferable, toxic, and repulsive. I don't know why I still come here for news. Grow up.
You know it's a true loss to the theatre world when you lose one of "last namers" - the playwrights who, all you have to do is say their last name, and you associate it with all their stylistic hallmarks.

JSquared2 - I see you've deleted your comment. Thank you
Returning to the appropriate mourning of a legend...
Back in 1985, I saw A LIE OF THE MIND 3 times I believe. It was over 3 1/2 hours and I loved every minute of it. The performances and the music by the Red Clay Ramblers were all intoxicating. Mr. Shepard directed himself. Look at this cast below! Thank you Mr. Shepard.
A Lie of the Mind was first produced Off-Broadway at the Promenade Theatre on December 5, 1985, closing on June 1, 1986 after 186 performances.
The cast was as follows:[3]
- Baylor - James Gammon
- Jake - Harvey Keitel
- Lorraine - Geraldine Page
- Mike - Will Patton
- Beth - Amanda Plummer
- Frankie - Aidan Quinn
- Meg - Ann Wedgeworth
- Sally - Karen Young
He was a true voice of American theater.
Shepard's work will continue to live on.
He was one of the great playwrights of the second half of the twenty century.
EthelMae, I only saw it once but that cast was as great on the stage as they appear on the page.
Rest in Peace and thank you, Sam Shepard.
That news like this means little on this board speaks poorly to how much things have changed around here.
RIP, dear Sam. I'll have to pull out my copy of Fool For Love tonight. His presence will be greatly missed - a big loss for theatre.

Scarywarhol -- I had that same thought.
The wise BWW elders, who the younger generation could learn so much from, have moved on. It's a significant loss to this community.
As is the loss of the brilliant Sam Shepard.
