Has anyone taken the bus from Washington DC to New York city? |
Dame, not sure what you mean by pick up far away. I believe Bolt and Megabus leave from Union Station. Vamoose leaves from Dupont Circle. Both are Metro accessible. I've taken the bus once, but prefer Amtrak (which I take frequently)
I usually take Megabus when I go to NYC (from Baltimore, but it's the same bus you would be taking). It has always worked fine, but it can sometimes be delayed, and the waiting/boarding experience isn't the most pleasant thing in the world (especially leaving NYC). For that reason alone, I recommend spending the extra dollar or two to get reserved seats.
I think just about everyone would prefer to take Amtrak, and when it's on sale, I sometimes do that. However, even at $49 each way (the usual sale price), it's still quite a bit more expensive than Megabus.
I've taken the Megabus from NYC to DC and back quite a few times. With one exception, the trip has always been very easy- and the exception was simply due to holiday weekend traffic over July 4th. I typically spend the extra money to get a reserved seat. Megabus is clean and provides free wifi and electrical outlets. It drops you off in Chelsea, on 7th ave in the mid-20s.
I like Amtrak, but, frankly, the ticket prices are exorbitant for a trip that is not substantially shorter and service that is not always more reliable than dealing with traffic.
Amtrak prices are really high the days I'm looking at. Vamoise only seems to
leave from Bethesda . DuPont circle would be ideal.
Dame,
Here you go. It's Best Bus that leaves from Dupont Circle.
