I'll try to stay focused but kdogg is right on target tonight. Tonight's news, again, hits me while just being "not connected" for 2 hours. First, I've just seen "Dunkirk"; this movie is not only a profound statement from Christopher Nolan and its' producers, but it's an astounding, immersive, terrifying, LOUD and astute "screaming statement" telling us that our powerful leaders are still able to command and usurp their authority and destroy our lives and the world. (It's no wonder "Dunkirk" was released on July 20 - remembering the plots to destroy Hitler). IMO, it may be a struggle to make it through Dunkirk w/out getting [really I mean it; physically ill; my husband was not able to get through it] upset. I think they are saying "certain dictators" are actively at it NOW.
So we come out of the movie and 45 is now seeking how many ways he can pardon himself, his family, his friends...His ethics spokesperson has resigned tonight. He's getting ready to Uck w/Mueller, Sessions is already toast...and this is after he told the NYT and the world he only wants "people he can count on; Russia ? what's Russia ?
IDT I'm reading too much into all this; these things develop in secret and then it all goes down. 45 is not going to let up. People need to call your Senators and Congresspersons...
If you do see Dunkirk, just be prepared; you may become physically ill or claustrophobic (the sound and score are mind bending, but then the underlying theme hits you; "Where is and What is the Truth"...are we getting another Hitler [or rather...he's really already here].
Rarely do I agree with such media outlets as these, but since this is a "guest" reviewer..."Dunkirk is a masterful film that will forever contribute to the public understanding of war."
This film probably just took The Prestige's spot in my top 3 favorite Christopher Nolan films. The others being The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar. I saw it in a DOLBY Theatre and I thought that just heightened the experience.
But that doesn't matter, because we're all here. And with all of our differences we have one thing in common. We're all gay.
Just thinking about this movie... I did find difficulty in differentiating everyone between their brown hair and British accents. They all seemed like the same people.

I am a fan of Nolan and I thought the film evoked WWII incredibly well. But I will say that I know the history behind the events, and those who attended the movie with me were alternately bored and lost about what was actually going on. The three different time lines were not presented very clearly. I only understood the approach by reading reviews after seeing the movie. I appreciate the vivid movie aspects but thought the storytelling was just a little too diffuse for those who do not already know the history behind it.
Weird, I didn't find the movie particularly intense or nauseating. I thought the score was irritating more than anything else. I mean, the movie was good, it was fine, but it's not one of my favorite war movies, nor one of my favorite Nolan movies (Memento is still his masterpiece).
