For what it's worth; Sam Rubin from KTLA talked about the Bowl lineup last week and they showed a picture of Bernadette when they talked about the Sondheim evening . But no mention .
nealb1 i too was at the Hollywood Bowl that night in 2005 and it was an extraordinary night for sure, what with Barbra Streisand leading 18,000 in HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Sondheim himself...but i too think this cast sounds a little dull...and for the money i paid for good seats at the Bowl, the luster of the idea of this show is wearing off sadly...
2005's Birthday Celebration was a night I'll never forget (and my avatar was taken at its rehearsal).
It does say additional casting announced- maybe we'll get some more interesting people? Or do you think it'll all be ensemble?
"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
What's wrong with the cast? Most of them have either won a Tony award or have been nominated.
The Hollywood bowl often hires celebrities with little to no actual Broadway experience so in terms of doing Sondheim songs justice, this is good news.
Am I correct in assuming then that this is a recreation of the show Vanessa Williams and Barbra Cook did on Broadway? The casting is defenitly blah. I mean did anyone really need to see. Jesse T Ferguson in one more Bowl show ?
Dame, I would think it is a recreation of the recent Broadway show at Studio 54. I saw it and loved it.
Yes, the 2005 concert was incredible. I'm so surprised that it wasn't filmed for PBS Great Performances and released on dvd.
As far as the casting - it's not that they aren't talented.........that's a given. I'm sure we can all agree that by HB standards, it's a very odd lineup.
Do you official announcement is that Matthew Morrison had scheduling conflicts but no replacement was being made. The rest of the cast would absorb his songs.
I saw this last night at the bowl, and while the singing voices with a few exceptions were rather light i LOVED the LA PHIL conducted by GUSTAVO DUDAMEL playing some of my favorite Sondheim songs...and it was a perfect night for glorious music!...

I agree. To hear the LA Phil do "Sunday" was alone worth the price of admission. Simply glorious!
