I wonder how long it's expected to last. Through the tony awards? I hope Emmy continues with the show, which is long shot.

This was a mess in Chicago and couldn't sell tickets to save its life. Good luck at the Palace. This show gave me a migraine. I hope they have worked on it.

I know we're not supposed to discuss these here, but I've been obsessed with the bootleg of the Chicago tryout for months. I think it's a creative, ingenious show that is pure fun. Exactly what we need right now. Will it change the landscape of Broadway? Probably not. It certainly won't hurt it, either.

This show appears more promising after the announcement of that Jimmy Buffet disaster come in next season as well.

Glad to see Ethan Slater, Lilli Cooper, and Gavin Lee are all still with the cast; they were outstanding. I really enjoyed this show and hope it finds an audience!
(Unfortunately the T.I. song is still listed as being in the score... That was really a weak spot.)

Seems like they changed the title? Or was it always that? I thought it was "The Spongebob Musical" or something? And I guess the Palace isn't getting lifted? Didn't say it was limited did it?

The Broadway theme park will be thriving in 2018 with this, Harry Potter, Frozen & Margaritaville arriving, plus current shows Aladdin, School of Rock & Lion King.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I'm losing Sunset Boulevard for this? Wasn't the Palace supposed to be closing for refurbishment after Sunset?

I think it will undergo renovations after this since this is rumored to only be a limited run.

Does this scream of being pandering commercial tripe that values style over originality and substance? Yup.
Am I pissed about losing Sunset Boulevard for this? Yup.
Might this help cultivate a new generation of theatregoers by providing them very light fare as an entry point? Yes. Personally, though I have seen 115 shows, my entry point to theatre was Beauty and the Beast. While I'm not comparing the two in terms of construction, BatB was a Disney property that was accessible to my four year old self and made a lifelong theatre lover of me.

I'm not sure what you think is dumb. Spongebob is fairly intelligent source material. Certainly more intelligent and clever than the source material than Aladdin, Wicked, The Lion King, Anastasia, and Kinky Boots. Adapting a musical from a comic/cartoon is fairly common. I don't think Spongebob is any more "dumb" than Little Orphan Annie, Beauty & the Beast... and on and on. I don't think Tina Landau, quite the intellectual, is dumb in any kind of way. I do think judging something before you see it is fairly dumb. Is that what you meant?

Sunset Boulevard was always gonna be a limited run, I don't know why people are surprised.
Reading some of the responses here.... theatre snobs are the worst. God forbid more people are introduced to theatre.

it does seem like they have, they also changed the logo which is ugly. I loved the old design.

Ethan Slater and Gavin Lee better be recongized next year for the Tonys. They are sensational.
Also, I'm guessing Best Set will be between Spongebob's big set and Frozen's very tech-savy set
