THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE FOR ACTORS AND SINGERS

A small group class for 4 performers, with AmSAT-certified instructor Eleanor Taylor – LIMITED ENROLLMENT!

DATES:

4 Thursdays, 12:30-2pm: Jun 1, 8, 15 & 22 - ALL LEVELS

OR

4 Tuesdays, 7-8:30pm: Jun 20, 27, Jul 11 & 18 (skips Jul 4) - ALL LEVELS

4 Fridays, 11am-12:30pm: Jun 9, 16, 23 & Jul 7 (skips Jun 30) - ADVANCED

Learn the fundamentals of the Alexander Technique in a personalized, supportive small group environment designed specifically for the needs of performers. In this 4-week introductory series, you will receive individual hands-on guidance in the Alexander Technique, a self-care method that has helped people for over a century to:

• enhance performance

• alleviate stress and anxiety

• ease back and neck pain

• cultivate freer breathing

Discover how you can put the technique’s powerful tools to work in your own performances and auditions to calm nerves and reduce habitual tensions that can interfere with accessing your fullest performing potential. We will devote special attention to breathing using The Art of Breathing method. Classes will explore the basic Alexander principles, and participants will have the opportunity to share work while receiving guidance in the technique in a relaxed, non-competitive setting. Maximum 4 participants.

ABOUT ELEANOR: Eleanor Taylor, m.AmSAT, is an American Society for the Alexander Technique-certified teacher.  She is on the faculty of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the affiliate faculty of the Riverside Initiative for the Alexander Technique, and maintains a private teaching studio at Union Square, Manhattan. She specializes in working with singers and actors to improve performance, prevent injury and reduce anxiety using the Alexander Technique. Eleanor has led Alexander Technique masterclasses for the Music Educators Association of NYC/United Federation of Teachers, the Brooklyn Music School Opera Studies program, the Danbury Chamber Music Intensive and the Wellbody Wellness Center. She has studied the Alexander Technique for 17 years with instructors including Gwen Ellison, Lori Schiff, Betsy Polatin, John Nicholls and Nanette Walsh, and completed the three-year full-time teacher certification program at Alexander Technique NYC. She has also trained in Jessica Wolf’s Art of Breathing method and emphasizes easeful breathing as the foundation of her teaching.
