American Gods on Starz Wow! |
I'm really looking forward to watching this. It's on Amazon Prime. Probably will do that this weekend, haha.
American Gods (from gay showrunner Bryan Fuller) starts tonight on Starz.

Here's another background piece on the "Super Gay/Supernatural" characters that apparently are very hott-t both in on screen sexuality and also in representing a Middle Eastern LGBTQ character, as one of the lead storylines.
This is really a crazy adaptation but so visual. Aptly bizarre; Martha Kelly and Cloris Leachman came on tonight as Zorya & Zorya. Martha Kelly (Baskets) steals her scenes with hardly a word. I can't wait to see Easter (Kristin C) and man...the nudity! Bilquis and her magic "*****".

Two episodes in...doesn't really do anything for me. I'll stick around for one more episode.

Well, actually... the critics beg to differ...

I'm out...too graphic. I wasn't familiar with the novel beforehand.
I couldn't get through the first hour, it's strange but not in a good way

Is it as confusing as the novel?

I don't find the show confusing, but I also didn't find the novel confusing.

Was it the scene where Bilquis is "whoreshipped"? There aren't any more scene's like that. Most guy's r pretty put off by that scene. ( I think it may be a latent fear of a lot o men)
The gay sex was actually reshot to make it more intense.
It's fairly true to the book which is weird but I think in a good way.
I never found the book that confusing ( ok a lil bit re Shadow's wife)
I like the way it pushed boundaries but even Gaiman backed off re put J Christ in the book.
That will be corrected in the series and then I spect the proverbial will hit the fan.

This continues to be such a visually stunning adaptation; after seeing the latest episode it keeps raising the bar with great special effects. The opening animation of the old Indian Gods is amazing. One of the main treats of this episode is seeing Media (Gillian Anderson) transformed into a couple of dizzyingly good personifications. Her David Bowie is so so good, then she becomes Marilyn Monroe (of course in the white dress from Seven Year Itch).

This is a photo of her as Bowie.
However, I'm still waiting for Kristin Chenowith to appear as Easter. Hopefully she'll show up this week. Lots of story still to tell.
It's so weird, gross and altogether riveting.
The hour just flew by in the most recent episode.
I feel like Tony Kushner and Gabriel García Márquez would watch the sh*t outta this show.
Gillian Anderson as media is truely a highlight. I can't wait to see what/how she shows up next!
It took Starz a few tries, but it looks like they finally have a big hit.
"Get out of my house you Zombie whore!"
"American Gods" comes to its' dazzling conclusion (1st Season ?) tomorrow night on Starz.
We finally get to meet Kristin Chenowith's "Easter"...but as the season ends, they have really just scratched the surface of the book and so many story lines and characters. The war is just beginning.
"Fargo" also ends this week and this season has been so wonderfully weird as well.
Wow! I was just able to catch up on the season finale of "American Gods" and boy! It did not disappoint.
The gods all descended on Easter's (Kristin Chenowith) estate complete with huge pink bunnies and a chorus line of dancing spirit gods. Ian McShane reveals that he is Odin; Media (Gillian Anderson) shows up to challenge them....really great special effects. KC has a field day playing Easter; she is a lot of fun in the role; the special effects pop with Jesuses, bunnies and candy. Shadow's dead wife arrives. The gods are challenging our morality and the stage is set for next season.
The show get pretty ethereal and spiritual but, imo, it is so visual and entertaining. I'm sure the Emmy nominations will come their way. Starz produced a good one this time.
