Andy Karl performance schedule

Have a feeling this thread might be useful moving forward. Looks like hes out for a few shows this week. Maybe any future information about what shows he will be missing, and any ticketmaster policy regarding this would be helpful to all.

Rumor was they were (reluctantly) doing refunds and exchanges for the one performance he missed on Saturday - and that was even before the reviews came out raving about his performance.  Considering he's now an Olivier-winning star with people who've surely bought tickets primarily to see him, with what is sure to be an unpredictable performance schedule, I would think they will continue to have a reasonable policy (otherwise they'll surely be setting themselves up for hundreds of grievances).

That said, word across the board has been that his understudy was terrific - and that was at his first performance, with only a minimum of rehearsal.  Presumably and hopefully, they will get Andrew Call out there doing some publicity, to try to push him as a sensational alternate, while still continuing to honor the wishes of theatregoers who've purchased tickets with the expectation of seeing Andy Karl.

Understudy Andrew Call will take on the role of Phil Connors for both the 2 PM and 8 PM performances Wednesday, April 19, the 7 PM performance April 20, and the 2 PM matinee on Saturday, April 22.

This might be pretty frequent over the next few weeks. Karl only doing 4-5 shows a week with Call(or even possibly Sean Montgomery) doing the rest of the performances.

Bummer.  If this same schedule continues, then we'll miss Andy a week Saturday matinee.

But health is most important and he needs to look after himself and heal.  I'm sure Andrew is amazing too.

I suspect that while he recovers, Karl will only perform on nights when Tony nominators or voters are scheduled to be in attendance.

I also have tickets for a mid week matinee performance next month and am wondering if perhaps AK wont be doing matinees. If he isn't performing I may switch shows. Not sure the logistics of all this and was looking forward to seeing AK.  I'm hoping they will announce some sort of schedule a week or two in advance so I can make alternate plans if need be.

Technical question:  As I was watching one of the previews I wondered how much of the show changes when his U/S goes on.  There is a lot of prerecorded stuff with Karl.  Does anyone know if they have double or triple videos for the others?

Also, it's a fairly general thing that if there's photos or videos used in a performance and an understudy goes on, they have their own videos/photos/etc.

Thanks!  Interesting.  I had wondered about this years ago since productions are alway looking to cut costs.  When I saw "The Goodbye Girl".  Bernadette's U/S went on before the show started and then the 2nd U/S went on for the 2nd act.

It is a tough call for him, his doctors and the producers....but I would suggest he stay out until the Tony nominations......which he is a shoo in for.....heal as well as possible , then go on as much as he can.   I don't know the severity of his injury, but rest and therapy are better ways to get over an injury than performing in a very physically demanding role.  Speedy recovery Andy!!!!!!.

FYI the box office, or at least some of them, are a lot more conservative about his appearances - claiming yesterday that "there is a chance" he will appear on Saturday night. I suppose it's hard for them to guarantee anything given the circumstances. I have gone to a great deal of effort to see the show on Saturday night now and I hope he is well enough to appear.

I say this knowing that most are only able to see a show once, but please don't feel you need to return your ticket if Andy is not in for a performance. The show itself is great, and while there is an undeniable star power to Andy in the role, the show and the cast stand out in a different, but equally satisfying way when Andrew Call is on. You will not be seeing an inferior show, just different. It's actually fascinating to compare the two if you're someone who likes to see a show more than once. Of course I say that as some one who likes to sell more tickets, but I do mean it.

I've had the luxury of seeing Andy a few times in this role (and love him). I'm actually trying to find a performance where Andrew is on that I can make, just to see it with him

Again, not to sound sell-y, but Jordan Grubb is totally adorable as Gus. This is a really good ensemble.

thanks sethleaf2, I am not sure IF I would switch shows, but if AK is out I might think about it. I was looking forward to reviews of Andrew Calls performance, but there don't seem to be many out there yet.

Andy is brilliant in this, but I saw Andrew Call in it the other day and he was absolutely wonderful. He's really been thrown in at the deep end with very little rehearsal but he's already giving a stunning performance. Yes it will disappoint people if they miss Andy K, but the show is in great hands when he's off.

I think they're probably taking his injury on a week by week basis. He's only doing 4 shows this week. Maybe next week he goes to 5 shows, and so on.

Saw Andrew Call Wednesday night, and as far as I can tell, his only fault is that he's not Andy Karl. 

The show is problematic in the first act, but Mr. Call is not one of the issues.

He was really giving it his all last night. Poor guy - he tried to make it seem like he wasn't in pain but I can only imagine it's been a tough go. He is a PRO! 

I feel like he will continue to miss shows here and there. When will we know more??

Also FRANKIE GRANDE was there last night... why are he and ORFEH friends? BIZARRE...

I doubt he does both of the two show days for awhile. I'd assume Call will be going on this Tuesday, plus Wednesday & Saturday matinee at least. Karl would get three days rest if he performs Wednesday night.

I'm supposed to see it on Saturday matinee too, on 5/6. If he's going to be out, I'd probably go for something else tho. That's unfortunate, I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Poor guy... my guess is that he's trying to push off surgery as long as he can... my heart breaks for him!! What a fighter!!!
