Typical, smearing the victim. His past has absolutely NOTHING to do with what happened to him on that flight! Period! This is United trying to save their ass, from what I am sure to be, on hell of a lawsuit!

It still amazes me that this story is so big yet a gay concentration camp getting set up and gay men getting killed is not spoken about at all.

Dragging the victim through the mud seems to be par for the course when it's not a white male.

One thing that puzzles me about the coverage of this horrible incident is the fact that so many people are using the term "overbooking" in connection with it. Whatever you think about overbooking, that doesn't seem to have been the issue here.

songanddanceman2, I'm sure people would want to discuss it if you start a thread.

The flight was not overbooked.  If it was overbooked, they would not have been permitted to board.  They simply wanted to deadhead some crew and didn't want to pay to have the crew fly on another airline.

This entire incident is disgusting, and I would love for United to go out of business because of it.  I certainly won't fly them ever again.

Precisely.  United's false characterization of this as an overbooking situation is finally getting the attention it deserves.  Anyone who has ever been in a real overbooking scenario knows they never let anyone on the plane until it is resolved.  United has always been a terrible company to deal with, but since I live 15 minutes from Newark Airport it can be difficult to fly another carrier.

Forget flying crew on another airline.   Apparently where they were going was only a 5 hour drive. They could have put the crew or the volunteer passengers on a limo service to take them to their destination.  of course a 5 hour drive is frustrating,  but better than having to wait until the next day.

And paying for reconstructive surgery to have teeth replaced and hospital stay for concussion. Going to end up costing United a lot!

There's one thing that I don't totally understand. Maybe someone here can enlighten me. Yes, United wanted the guy out so that one of their crew would be able to deadhead the flight. However, wouldn't there have been another flight to the same location thus giving the crew member the ability to deadhead that flight?

I think the next one for United was not until the next day.  That's why this man and his wife ended up refusing because they wouldn't make it to work the next day if they waited.  And that's when the media decided to check out the guy's background so they could make him look terrible. Didn't work for me though.
