Best Pizza in NYC |
I always seem to end up at Famous Amadeus at 50th and 8th. I am addicted to their bacon and pepperoni pizza and love their garlic knots. There is also a dollar pizza place right near the Chrysler Building that I like.
It depends on what kind of pizza I'm in the mood for. Joe's Pizza in the village has a very good slice, as well as Bleecker Street. If I want to sit and split a pie with friends, I like Patsy's - I've only been to the Union Square location, but I hear the East Harlem is the original.
Motorino is fabulous!
I'm not a local, so take my limited experience of the scope of NYC pizza with a grain of salt, but I have great fidelity to Bleecker Street Pizza. It's always completely satisfying and what, in my mind, pizza "is." To me, it's just a perfect slice. Patzeria on 46th is also quite good.

$1 slices. There's a dollar slice shop on every other corner.

Patsy's in East Harlem (and only the one in East Harlem). They use a coal-fired oven and it makes all the difference. Hear what Frankie says about it:

If I'm in SoHo/NoLita I like Rubirosa.

ETA: Patsy's in East Harlem has three storefronts. One is a bar type area, the other the main restaurant (whole pies only and a full menu of Italian dishes), and the third has an oven and offers slices. The slices are GREAT.

Those $1 pseudo-pizza slices are truly gross....
I love Keste Pizza & Vino - 271 Bleeker
Patzeria is the best pizza I've ever had. Their sausage, peppers and onions and their pepperoni and sausage slices are to DIE for.

I think they're too greasy. The grandma slice is perfect, though.
I hate any pizza with red sauce, but I had a slice of white pizza at one of those $1 places on 8th Ave and it was maybe the best pizza I've ever had.

I was expressing my opinion just as everyone else is.
Yeah, I've grabbed plenty of $1 slices on the run / on a budget, and I've never once come anywhere near being grossed out. They're simple and sloppy, but it's still bread, sauce, and cheese that will fill up your belly for two or three bucks.
I'm not sure I understand the obsession with Patzeria (other than its close proximity to shows). Their sauce is so sweet.
Some people dig a sweet sauce
the $1 pizza places i agree are gross. The sauce is like the worst Ragu, Bargain Basement crap and the cheese is rubbery. At least the few times I have had them. Aside from that NY Pizza is like s#x. even bad is still good!
Big pizza fan here. Have lots I love.
I disagree that $1 places are gross. I love $.99 pizza that is of course right next to Planet Fitness on 27th! They have delicious pizza.
John (now on 14th and in the west village too) is a great classic slice.
Vezzo in Kips Bay is pretty good thin crust.
My favorite I've ever had for fancy pizza would have to be Lucali's. It's a trek out, there will be a wait and they are cash only, but it is SO WORTH IT. To die for pizza. https://www.yelp.com/biz/lucali-brooklyn-3
Robertas in Williamsburg is also great.
I had a slice the other day at Ben's Pizza on West 3rd and McDougal and it was the best slice I have had in the city.
Pizza Suprema, around 33rd and 8th. Didn't wanna go, since it s in my least favorite nabe, but a friend dragged me. Super impresssed!

I love the dollar slice places when you're in a rush. If you have a few people I like:
1. John's in Times Square
2. Angelos
3. Two Boots for a spicy slice
4. Patsys.
Since pizza is my very favorite food, I have opinions on this:
Best slice - Ben's. Either in soho or 3rd st.
Best whole pizza - Bleecker St. Pizza
John's in the village (the one on 44th is not very good)
Arturo's
Olio et Piu
I am a pizza purist. Other than fresh garlic, I prefer no topping. To put pineapple, mac and cheese, lasagne, salad, etc. on top of pizza is a sin.
