When is it suppose to start in NY?

Won't be here (Boston) until Tuesday....I'm sure I'll be making soup.  And chili.

I'm in Philly. For us, the snow is supposed to start around 8pm Monday night and continue through Tuesday evening. We're being told to expect 8-12 inches total, with heaviest accumulations between 3am-12noon on Tuesday. Assuming that I'll be working from home on Tuesday, I am going to use the opportunity to try this New York Times recipe I've been wanting to make for a while. It's called kalpudding, and it's basically a Swedish meatloaf with cabbage. I'm going out to get the ingredients I need today. Should be a hearty and comforting dish for a cold, snowy day.

Kalpudding recipe

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Obviously it has to be something with bread,  milk, and eggs since everyone always panic shops for that stuff. Totally kidding.  I have no idea if I will cook anything good.

I have only seen a potential of 15-18 inches for northwest Nj. But, people are claiming 2 feet. I don't believe anything until I see it.

So...French toast?!

When I used to live up north (in north New Jersey), I never understood the panic shopping that always ensued before a storm, not because I had an issue with people trying to ensure they had food, but because of what everyone ran out to get. If you're gonna be snowed in for a couple of days, I'd think you'd want something more interesting than milk, bread, and eggs. But that's just me.

By the way, here in central Florida it's going to be in the 80's all week. I may go in the pool tomorrow! I don't miss snow one bit.

^ I agree. I also don't get why people think they can't live without those items for a day or two. I think having four kids my mom wasn't likely to run out of those things.  But, she made us things like soup, hot dogs,  or macaroni and cheese instead. I even remember eating star shaped pasta too.

Definitely. I always use being snowed in as an excuse to cook the intricate meals that I otherwise wouldn't have time to make. When I go out shop for an impending storm, I decide what I want to make and shop accordingly.

I'm going to make a vegan shepherd's pie and roasted brussel sprouts. Today is my second day vegan & gluten free, and while it's probably a placebo effect, I'm already noticing differences in my digestion.
