Don't you just hate it when there is an interesting clip on youtube or a piece of music you're excited to share with a friend and when it starts to play your friend can't shut up and listen in silence for just a moment??  Usual remarks as they watch or listen generally go something like this:

Is that the girl from that movie..oh you know..what's her name..who is that guy and why is he looking at her like that..how old to you think she is..she looks old..is she wearing a wig.. how young do you think she is.. How old is this clip.. oh this song reminds me of that other song what was the name of that song?

JUST SHUT UP AND LISTEN!

Thanks.  Just had to get that off my chest.

What gets my goat is when some naïveté suggests that some newfangled invention, technology, or service is better than what came before it, by default.

What drives me nuts is the rampant misuse and abuse of the word "literally" that's sweeping our nation like a plague. It's like a knife in my soul every time I hear it now. And I hear it all the time -- some people use it in practically every sentence [Haha, I just heard my roommate say it as I was typing that sentence. He's one of the worst offenders.] Gone are the days when you could say something like, "You literally drive me nuts," to, I dunno, a guy who delivers pistachios, and have it mean something.

Also, people who pronounce words to make them sound French, like "homage" or "niche." But that's a losing battle, because it's rare that I hear those words pronounced correctly anymore.

The showing people things-you-love thing can be a bit annoying sometimes if they can't get 'on the train'. I remember playing "Will You?" from Grey Gardens to a car full of non-musical fans..I described it as one of the most beautiful songs I had heard. A big call but when the music started playing, and Ebersole's pristine voice started radiating the car I knew I hadn't oversold the song. By the end, I'm practically in tears and have had yet another life-changing epiphany, feeling so lucky I am able to enjoy the art that others have produced for us to consume.

At the end of the song, I asked what others thought and their response was "meh, sounds like generic classical music from the 60s". Ouch.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

What the heck is generic classical music from the 60s? That makes absolutely no sense as a description. Unfortunately I can relate to your situation all too well. Tried to get a friend to listen to Vier Letzte Lieder once. So frustrating when they just don't get it.

Don't you just hate it when.. Networks all program their commercials at the same time so when your show has a commercial break, flipping around the dial to see what else is on, all you see are more commercials.

Don't you just hate it when.. You've watched a show once all season and finally decide to watch another episode and the episode that's on is a repeat of the only episode you actually saw.

Don't you just hate it when.. Buses are supposed to come every 9 minutes but in reality they come every 25, 1 and 1 minutes.

Don't you just hate it when.. Someone in front of you at a sporting event constantly leans forward so their stupid head with their stupid hat blocks out 1/3 of the field/court/ice - also applies to people at concerts who have to stand from the very first song when no one else is standing and don't care if you can't see thru them.

Don't you just hate it when.. People start every freaking sentence with "So,..."

Don't you just hate it when.. People are in such a rush to be the one to start a thread, they can't take 2 minutes to reread and proofread what they've written so their post doesn't read like it was created with a random word generator.

Don't you just hate it when.. people think I don't hear enough complaining from family and friends in real life that I'd want to listen to strangers doing it.

I'm Indian, been living in the US for about 4 years now. I HATE it when people compliment my English. These are my feelings about that -

when....people abuse apostrophes.  Just because it has an s added, doesn't mean it needs and apostrophe.

when...people type LOL when nothing they've typed is even remotely humorous.  (And I'm not talking about a different sense of humor)

And I'll totally back up the above comment about "literally".

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I thought this thread was about loud chewing, or chewing gum with your mouth open. You do that and I'll slap you hard.

when....people abuse apostrophes.  Just because it has an s added, doesn't mean it needs and apostrophe.

And if you point it out when someone does it around here?  HOO BOY!  Suddenly, you're told you "have no life" or that you should be commenting on "more important things" or how other message boards are better because they don't pay attention to grammar or some other ridiculous defensive remark.

You don't use an apostrophe to pluralize a noun.  Why is that so hard?  I mean, it's not like we're trying to break their brains over the advanced difficulties of "they're", "there" and "their".

LOL, literally.

Why does it seem like I tend to double post more when I'm on my iPhone?

Restaurant employees who wear gloves for sanitary reasons and then proceed to touch anything and everything and not change their gloves and continue touching your food.  Retail/grocery store employees who lick their fingers in order to separate the opening on plastic bags and then proceed to touch your brand new items with their freshly licked fingers.  (This last one won me a book at a taping of The Chew when we were asked to list pet peeves)

People who don't let you get out of the elevator before getting on it or (when I lived in NYC) people who don't let you get out of the subway first.
