GOP plan to replace the ACA |
It benefits the wealthy and corporations. No surprise there.

The devil is in the details!

No, he's in the White House.
Anyone who doesn't understand how mandating the purchase of insurance helps keep costs down is an idiot. And the idea that the government shouldn't force you to buy insurance doesn't work, either, because, hello...car insurance.
Anyway, a lot of the more conservative congressmen aren't pleased with this plan, calling it ObamaCare 2.0 and ObamaCare Lite.
My name is neither "adam" nor "greer."
Plus, there are apparently 4 GOP senators from states where Medicaid has been expanded, and is working, who are opposed to any plan that rolls back Medicaid.

Oddly enough, Kentucky is one of the states where the ACA and the Medicaid expansion has worked great, but you'll never see McConnell admit that.

The Club for Growth opposes the plan (not sure if it should be called 'Ryancare' or 'Trumpcare', which will probably make a bridge too far for many in the GOP. If so, this is a strategic nightmare for Ryan and Trump.

The idea behind the car insurance logic is faulty because 1) while most Americans need a car, not all Americans do (I haven't owned a car in 15 years) and 2) the states determine how much or how little insurance you are required to carry (car insurance has never been federal mandate...Arizona, New Hampshire and Viriginia technically do not require you do carry car insurance).

The cynic in me dismisses the House bills as political theater of the worst kind. They constitute a thinly-veiled attempt at stripping Planned Parenthood of federal reimbursements and at shielding certain doctors from lawsuits due to tort for reasons that are all too obvious. I haven't had time to read them but the text of one follows.
H.R. 277: American Health Care Reform Act of 2017
My favorite Mel Brooks movie is different from most other folks', it's History of the World, Part 1. This clip sums up the GOP pretty well.

Jason Chaffetz has the answer for poor people struggling to buy health insurance. Don't buy an iPhone!
“Maybe rather than getting that new iPhone” Americans “should invest in their own healthcare” - Rep. Jason Chaffetz https://t.co/sxWaRohbEhpic.twitter.com/aEWYikdWiw

I can't wait to hear Apple's response!
Heritage and FreedomWorks both strongly oppose the bill. Warts and all, the 'as is' ACA is looking better and better.
Mel Brooks, his best movie. Good topic. I was not a huge fan, but I liked Blazing Saddles when I was12, and the ones after that less and less. His best film was The Producers, the one we had to endure, that basically sucked on Broadway.
I love the part where they say they won't penalize people who go without insurance, but say that insurance companies will be able to impose 30% surcharge if you go too long without any. That's like an incentive to not sign up for another plan.
With the revised plan people above the Medicaid cut off would get totally screwed. Their tax credits would not begin to pay for anything. And that is a large percentage of the population.
One of the main ideas of Obama Care was to keep the population healthier so there would be less non paying usage of emergency rooms and heath issues could be treated earlier rather than later.
My fav Mel brooks films are spaceballs, history of the world and twelve chairs
It's called the "World's Greatest Health Care Plan of 2017".
I wish I were kidding, but it's true.
Ryan shrugged off any concern about the tax windfall coming to the wealthy in his bill.
