Backstage with Richard Ridge: Lucas Steele interview

There's been a lot of talk about a lot of the cast getting nominated but I haven't heard many people mention Lucas Steele for a supporting actor nomination? I've seen the show a few times and when I saw it again last month I was surprised at how struck I was with his performance. I hadn't ever noticed how fantastic his performance is. He's grown so much in the role over the years. Thoughts?

On the contrary, I think gads of people expect a nom for him.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Curious where you've been hanging out then, everyone I've been are saying he's got the best odds of winning best supporting

I feel like he's on everybody's Featured Actor prediction list? I say he's the frontrunner by a mile.

There are still 8 new musicals/revivals yet to open, so it's early to declare a front-runner, but I'd say Lucas Steele looks like he's got a stellar shot at a Tony nomination. He won the 2014 Lucille Lortel Award for Featured Actor in a Musical for ''The Great Comet.''

I did a ''Leading Men'' interview with Lucas for Playbill.com a few years ago when his show was playing at Kazino. His then-co-star Philippa Soo was dishing about their makeout scene (''Lucas is a great kisser and has very soft lips'' ). Lucas also recalled why Bernadette Peters was his favorite celebrity encounter, and how he came out to his family, and the advice he would give to gay teens.
