I bring mine back on the plane in a plastic bag as a carry-on. I either put it on top of the other bags in the overhead bin, or if I have a window seat, I stand up the bag between the side of the plane and the seat in front of me.
I will also sometimes take with me 2 pieces of cardboard to put them between to help protect them. I either cut the cardboard from a box or pick up some of those Fed Ex shipping boxes that haven't been folded together yet.
And I use the Playbill frames. They aren't cheap, but I'll wait until they're doing a sale (in fact I think they started a 10% off sale today on all their frames) and stock up then.
I keep my wc in NYC with friends, unless I can drive them back home. I get frames from Walmart. Just order a frame thats the size of the poster. Works good and is a little cheaper.

When I purchased my rolling suitcase, I made sure that windowcards would fit. I put them in a bag with plenty of cardboard to keep them from bending. Then when I pack the suitcase, I make sure they're supported both on top and underneath so they don't bend during the trip. I've never had a problem getting them home in perfect condition.
I would try and find some hard plastic covers.
You can pack your window cards safely and know that your posters will not get damaged.

Quadro Frames sells kits to assemble window card frames. They're I believe $60 for 4 frames, which isn't cheap (it used to be 6 for $40) but it's a cheaper option than most.
I second Quadro Frames, I buy all my window card frames there. The frames are not difficult to assemble, they are exactly the right size, they are MUCH cheaper than anything else I have ever found, and the quality is nice. The glass is real glass, not plastic like Playbill frames.
