Need advice for a visitor to midtown |
What's her budget?
She's totally clueless as to the cost of a hotel in NY. I figured that if anyone here knows of a decent place, she'd accept the rates you paid.
The dates are very important because the same room on different days of the week or weeks of the year and even the number of days staying vary alot. She should try Travelocity. I use them alot and they are very good
I would suggest that she not book online. Instead pick several hotels and call the hotel reservations number and explain her situation. Many hotels offer "short term stay" rates that are very often cheaper than posted rates. I was the general manager of a hotel and we wanted "heads in the beds" during mid-week and offered a different rate for short and long term stays. Weekend rates could be higher depending on date and demand.
A lot of people use hotels.com, including me. But I've never found dealing direct with the hotels to ever be cheaper. Sonof's idea is new to me and I'll definitely try it.
PS Alot of people don't know "a lot" is two words.

2 week should still be ok w most "transient" hotels. Usually upper limit is 30 days.

Jane2, have her look into the Holiday Inns around 38th-40th sts. I think they're called Candlewood? I'll look it up and link later. They are almost little apartments, with fridges, microwaves, etc.
