Sam Gold's previously cancelled 'Hamlet' starring Oscar Isaac in the title role will go up at the Public in late June!

The casting is amazing but it's always so hard to get tickets to things a the Public.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Their website is barely functional on a normal day, let alone for something like this. Also why is it not in the Newman? They don't even want people to be able to get tickets...

Question regarding membership.  If I buy the membership that includes 1 discount ticket, can I buy 2 tickets during the priority sales (one member priced and one non-member priced)?

Under current rules yes. Not sure if they're going to change them for this though

I called the theater and asked specifically regarding this production.  They said I would be able to buy two tickets.

The capacity of the Newman isn't that much smaller.  Anspacher is 270, Newman is 299 max.

Gah, it's a bummer to hear that tickets to anything at the Public are difficult to secure. It seems a bit ridiculous to consider paying for membership just for a better chance, right?

I was hoping I could see this while I was in the city (visiting from Australia, seeing Hamilton).

Tickets to their shows aren't too crazy. Especially in Previews. Not sure Isaac's is gonna make this a hot ticket. Plus they always do lotteries with Today Tix.

Isaac's in Star Wars, Sam Gold's the hottest director in town, it's the most famous play ever written, and the theater is tiny. It's going to be a hot ticket.

Like all supposedly "sold out" shows at the Public: the website will say it's completely sold out for months, then once performances start, trickles of tickets will be released 1-2 days in advance. Remember that because it's a membership theater, a large number of tickets have to be held back for member exchanges, and returned tickets are often then offered for sale.

Larry, that's not true. They don't even hold back tickets for members or member exchanges anymore. They really don't give a flying **** about their members. I say this as a member who has struggled to get a single ticket to every production this season.

30 seats is 30 seats.

Neon, thanks for clarifying. I didn't know that. I gave up my membership a few years ago, but when I was a member, exchanges were fairly straightforward and never an issue. I'm guessing they're in a situation now where they've taken on too many members and can no longer accommodate their demands. Everyone ends up getting shafted. If member exchanges are no longer a guarantee, then I really don't see the point of being a member anymore.

That said, in the past few years as a non-member, I've never had trouble scoring a ticket to any of their sold-out shows (including the mega-sold-out shows like Hamilton or Tiny Beautiful Things), usually a day or so in advance at full price.
