I maybe would have given you a different answer during the campaign season, but it's March 2017, and the guy who's carrying my party's banner is the sitting President of the United States. I will always respect the holder of that office.

I vehemently opposed a number of Obama's policies, but I never once felt he should be disrespected. He was my President, just as Trump is today.

Also, nicely done adamgreer, you've officially pushed me to my breaking point with throwing around Hitler's name like it's just nothing. Trump ≠ Hitler.

Trump = A country in which you can take to the streets and loudly protest how much you hate him.

Hitler = You are killed.

Trump = A country in which your elected representatives can silently protest in the very same room as him during a major address.

Hitler = You are killed.

Hitler didn't murder 6.5 million people during his first 100 days. But such nuances being lost on you is par for the course.

This implies that a president, no matter what he or she does, can never be embarrassing to you, by definition. Also it implies that Democrats can be embarrassed by their leader, but you never can be, as long as a Republican is president (which would be a neat trick if it worked on anyone). Finally, it means that no Democrat (or Republican) should have been embarrassed by Bill Clinton's Oval Office sexual escapades, because a president cannot be a source of embarrassment.

Obviously, I don't buy any of that. :)

...no, it means that I will always respect those who hold the office of the presidency. Of course it's embarrassing to have had a president with a sexual history like Bill Clinton—but when he walked into the closing performance of The Color Purple which I was also at, I stood and applauded him and his name. He was yours/my/our President, and with that comes utmost respect. I'd do the same if I was in the same space as Obama, Carter, either Bush, or Trump. You and I can like/dislike a President to whatever degree you'd like, but I'll always offer them my respect.

Well, I asked if you were humiliated by Trump, and you said you weren't because he's the president. If you can be embarrassed by the president but still respect him, then your answer no longer makes sense.
