Our drama program is starting to look for musicals for next winter. We've done musicals with barely any ensemble involvement the past 3 years, so it has to have a lot of big numbers with dancing, or at least a few. We have a couple guys who can carry a tune well, a lot of girls who are good, and an outstanding soprano. Any ideas? Our school is smaller and not very diverse so anything big like phantom or les mis or hairspray

42nd Street has a lot of ensemble and a few very good male roles, also has a lot of big numbers. The Only problem is the tapping, but my high school just practiced every day. Also, Grease is a good one, but not as much ensemble involvement. Beauty and the Beast is another great option, there's also a few good male roles and good ensemble involvement. The sound of music has a huge cast but not much ensemble. Rent is good, as well as my fair lady. But 42nd street would be ideal. Or maybe wizard of oz.

The Music Man has great parts for women (and men)! and a really stand out role for a talented soprano. Also lots of ensemble numbers and dancing. Some other suggestions: Thoroughly Modern Millie, Brigadoon, Bye Bye Birdie, Seussical, Once on this Island, South Pacific, and Pajama Game are great shows for high school aged students with large casts and lots of ensemble involvement.
