Public humiliation for Drabinsky isn't sufficient for attempting to insult an artist whose left little finger has done more for theatre than he'll accomplish in his entire amoral, inept criminal life.
@Tag, you misapprehend what is newsworthy about this. Which is that he said "why am I paying you..." That gives lie to fraud he and his cohorts in crime are propagating..
I LOVE what Tunick said to him! Good for you Mr. Tunick. Way to win fans and potential investors Garth. Looks like you learned absolutely nothing in prison!
Theater anywhere, anytime and with anyone. It's my passion.
I somehow doubt that Tunick said that in reply. Oh, the quote is absolutely true, but who says stuff like that except the very insecure? Tunick probably said something like "Because I know what I'm doing" and the story grew from there.
I'm with those waiting for the interesting part of the story to be revealed. Tempers flaring in a rehearsal room and the producer using money as his go to argument is hardly unheard of behavior.
@AEA, again, as I said above, that's not the news here.
@ Alan, great, but your anecdote does not change something that most assuredly happen (even if Riedel mangled the details, which would not surprise me).
I spent an entire day last week at Sousatzka rehearsals and while I can't speak to what Riedel has written and his sources - that's not the impression I got from Drabinsky these days...
Well he's not going to act that way when press is in the room...
Riedel is old news, no longer relevant. Theatre goers are getting their scoops live on line now. I'm suprised he's lasted this long. Maybe he can get a job in the Trump administration.
I wonder why the extraordinary folks involved in this show are working with Drabinsky at all, if he's such a bad-ethic businessman. Second chances perhaps? Or am I missing something?

apparently he's not technically a part of the company producing the show, even though he has some sort of control over the production.
@ado annie, people both like to work and like to make money.
@broadway guy, he is a part of the company producing the show insofar as he is the one producing it. They are, of necessity, lying about his involvement in the financial aspects because it is illegal. Crooks don't tell the truth. (Pretty basic LOL.)
^Well they probably aren't technically lying. On paper it has to be kosher, or this wouldn't be happening. But obviously he's running the show over there.
my fave garth moment is when he uses the walker for sympathy like at OSC hearings and then walks away when he is done with the hearing....dirty rotten scoundrels anymone?
