Well, Hork...I gave my opinion.   I'm not going to debate the actions of two multimillionaires whether or not one didn't know what was going on...because one is old.  They're both old.  Now if Faye or Beatty wants to throw me some coins to continue this debate....that's another story.

I blame all three - Price Waterhouse, but mostly Meatty and Dunaway. They saw that the card said EMMA STONE for la la Land. Their faults for not stopping right then and there to question  that.

It was Brian Cullinan's fault. He handed the envelope to Warren Beatty.  He had one job, but instead spent the time  tweeting snaps of Emma Stone and basking in reflected glory instead of concentrating on the whole entire reason he was there at all. Assclown.

Anyway, Trump is due to address congress in two minutes, so if ever I needed a reminder that this incident isn't really that important...

Don't disagree Jane. Some what have dealt w Beatty  in interviews have said he is not good at improvising and thinking on his feet. Micromanages everything before hand so he doesn't have to "deal".

He was flummoxed in a live environment w the audience and the cameras , where something was obviously wrong and simply did not know what to do.  That' s him, not his age. Dunaway saw only what she expected to see when he showed her the card and didn't bother looking at what else was there.  

So many "if only"s.

IF the Academy want to play nice next year, they should have the Exec Producers of BOTH films come out to present Best Film.

Jay, it doesn't matter who handed Warren the envelope. He looked at it, even hesitated because it wasn't right.

Anyway, I think we people can talk about unimportant things as well as important ones. I'm not watching that jerk make a speech though. I'm sure I'll hear  all about how dumb it was!

Right, but Warren's muddled reaction is more understandable and easier to forgive than the Pricewaterhousecooper guy, who doesn't have the excuse of being on live TV in front of the whole world.

Also, yeah, I didn't mean to imply we shouldn't discuss the less important things in life, you're right. If it helps block out that creature from the orange lagoon currently on my TV screen, I'm all for it! :)

I don't blame Warren at all, I probably would have done exactly what he did. I blame the idiot who gave him the wrong envelope and the producers for not jumping in immediately, before three La La Land producers gave speeches.

Actually, Faye is  more to blame than Warren. Warren didn't know what the heck was going on, but Faye actually announced the wrong category.

Huh? The title she saw was Emma Stone. They held up the card to the camera on air. I saw it.

Who did? Unless you're talking about some post-show interview, that didn't happen. But obviously it said "La La Land" along with her name, and that's the part that Faye saw and read. It wouldn't just say her name, and nothing else.

I don't recall any of that.

I do recall "La La Land" 'producer Jordan Horowitz holding up the card that read MOONLIGHT with the producers names listed below and below that the words: "Best Picture". 

I don't recall anyone holding up the card that read: "Emma Stone - La La Land".

For what it's worth I just re-watched the last 20 minutes of the broadcast on my DVR and at no point during the show was a card held up that said "Emma Stone - La La Land."  Or "Emma Stone". Or "La La Land".  This was on the ABC broadcast.

 

Were you watching the show some other way, Jane2?

I don't really care who remembers it. I do. How would I be reporting exactly what it said if I hadn't seen it? I've never seen an Oscar winner card before this.

And since you saw the correct card, then you would have to know that Beatty and Dunaway did not receive the card which announced best picture, however,  they announced best picture.
