I wish there was some more dialogue included, but it's an absolutely majestic recording.

It does just start very abruptly. It really would have been nice to have the opening recorded but at the same time as an album it pulls you right in. There's enough dialogue on the rest of the album for someone who hasn't seen the show to follow along well enough. The sound quality is superb.

ehhhh i disagree, i felt like most of the nuances of the story (which i haven't seen and mentioned above followed along to the synopsis on wikipedia) were completely lost, the songs weren't super story-specific. i'm also not really a fan of albums with lots of dialogue, though i know lots of people are (PS Classics overdoes it which many would call blasphemous). Still a good album though!

I saw this in December, and from the 10 shows I saw that month it was really the most impressive.

I just need a quick reminder, can someone remind me how Evan breaks his arm? Perhaps this needs to be prefaced with a spoiler alert.

It's a great recording.

The score is not as woven through as some musicals so some of the story is lost on the CR, but I think enough of it is there to be able to follow it even if you know nothing about the show.

One thing you really don't get is how painfully awkward (possibly on the spectrum?) Evan is.

....but the world goes 'round

I listened to some of the preview and it is beautiful. But, I don't know if it's because I just woke up, but damn, my ears literally hurt because it's so loud!

Today's going to be a great day! "For Forever" sounds gorgeous - I can't stop listening! I'm bummed they left off the reprise of "Sincerely, Me". I guess I should have paid more attention to the track listing in iTunes, but I was surprised to see it omitted while listening through the whole album this morning. Is it due to the lyric at the beginning? Or just didn't fit the flow of the album? The way Connor's character is is portrayed is brilliant, and I love the driving beat in that song (and reprise).

The only problem is the producer make the music too loud in mastering. It sounds no dynamic at all. It's a muical recording, not a rock albem. Why did they make it SO LOUD???

Funny, I actually think that their voices come through better on the album than at the live show.  I find the music to drown them out a bit there.

i think it's a very well produced album and like the rock feel that many of the songs have.

I'll download it tonight when I get home, but I listened to the previews on iTunes. Occasionally the voices sound odd to me. Like Dreyfuss's voice doesn't sound like her in spots. Ben Platt too. Producers wouldn't be using Autotune for voices as good as these, right?

Felt like it was easier asking this in here, but does anyone know if Alexis Molnar(the arena stage Alana Beck) didn't continue with the show on her own terms, or if it was a decision to let her go made by the creatives? If I were her I'd be flipping the ****. She missed out on all the hype of the show. I hope the show was developed with workshop contracts so she could be getting a slice of the dough.

eh i didn't notice much blatant auto tuning and i feel most cast recordings don't use much of it but i'm sure subtle use of it is used (like the subtle way most good singers are autotuned on albums). One cast recording i can think of with some used is Wicked, where Idina's many vocal quirks were frequently gotten rid of.

I am obsessed! My favorites are:

Good For You (SO FREAKING AMAZING), You Will Be Found, and Sincerely Me.

The one song I dislike even remotely is Anybody Have a Map. I feel like Jennifer and Rachel's voices sound too boring. They have a lot more emotion and "rock" sound in the show (and in the bootleg I have whoops).

On the subject of voices sounding quite different from what you hear live in the theatre, I think that Mike Faist's voice in particular sounds not like himself at all. I've seen him a few times live in both concerts and shows, and all of Conner's singing/dialogue just sounds off on the album.
