"You're an expert at describing yourself when criticizing others, After Eight. "
Oh, really? Gee, I never said that I would be leaving the country, unlike Babs and co. I'd like to know when the hell are they leaving.
It's said you're only as good as your word. Well, their word, and their words, are worthless.
And Mildred, if you actually read writing of a higher caliber than what one finds in the Huffington Post --- perhaps a work of literature or two? --- you would be much the better for it.
As an American citizen Barbra Streisand is exercising her right to free speech. She doesn't need to shut up. This incoming presidency cannot and should not be normalized.
Fixating on people saying they wold leave the country if Trump were elected is much like fixating on Elizabeth Warren not shaking Betsy Devos' hand after Devos made a contemptible mockery of her appointment hearing.
In both cases, you are making the trivial your priority, rather than the significant.
I'm only guessing, but this may be what an After Eight Reading List looks like:
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Little Women The Secret Garden The Protocols of the Elders of Zion Little House on the Prairie Peyton Place (for those racy nights) The Fountainhead Mein Kampf Jane Eyre Five Children and It
Begin with Robert Herrick, then move on to Jane Austen, and then .....
Well, you've got a lot of ground to cover. But it's never too late to start.
You also have to detoxify yourself from the poisons emanating from the fetid academia/media swamp. You can start by eliminating things like the Huffington Post, and anything written and/or spoken by the likes of Babs and crew.
Ultimately, you'll be far more cultured and genteel, and you'll thank me.
After Eight, calm down before you sprain something. You, of all people, should appreciate the right to say what you think. I admire that you do it, even if yours is often an unpopular opinion. I only wish that you could find a way to express yourself that doesn't involve judgmental, put-down pronouncements. We all have opinions, but judgments are another thing.
I don't have a notion of what "the party line" is so I can't address that. You clearly resent people judging you yet you feel free to do it to others. All I'm saying is that a little respect for the opinions of others may be called for. After all, I respect your opinions, even if I do disagree with many of them. You know what it's like to be judged. Do you really want to do that to people?
"All I'm saying is that a little respect for the opinions of others may be called for."
Then let it apply to everyone here, and let not hypocrisy reign on that score.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
As for the party line, look at the powers-that-be's consecration of wretched things like Hamilton, Fun Home, Falsettos, The Humans, etc, etc. Or the preening, high-horse sermonizing of Streep, Babs, etc. That's the party line.

In my experience, people aren't generally attacked here when they respectfully disagree with the majority view on shows like these. A few weeks ago, I specifically pointed out threads to you that featured spirited but polite disagreement about shows like Passion and Sunday in the Park with George.
However, when you give your opinion on shows you don't like, it usually comes with the suggestion that liking those shows is some kind of character flaw. You can't expect people to react respectfully to that kind of criticism.
