If a former President passes away on the eve of an inauguration does the period of mourning start during or after?

I'm sure he did that out of common courtesy, just like all the former presidents called Trump to congratulate him on November 9th. All the former presidents have a good sense of decorum and decency.

We need to remember how all the former presidents treated Trump (even having not supported him) and in four - or God forbid eight years - will Trump extend the same courtesy to the person who succeeds him?
