Did anyone else think the first two episodes were slow moving and that some supporting characters were hard to understand? I would have preferred a stronger plot. Your thoughts.....

I can honestly say this is the only show I've ever seen where the first shot is Jude Law crawling out of a mountain of dead babies.

I couldn't get past the first ten minutes.

It was the opposite for me. I saw the dead baby mountain and I was like, "I need to see how this plays out."

Two episodes in and stoked to see more.  The series has a ton of potential and it's subversive in a good way.  I doubt that it would have seen the light of day 30 years ago in the US.  It also features some very talented international actors whose careers I've followed for years like Javier Camara, Silvio Orlando, and Cecile de France.  I can suffer the accents in exchange for what they deliver on screen.  The sexual tension between Pope Pius XIII (Jude Law) and Sofia (Cecile de France) adds another element of intrigue.  The Pope is well above average in the looks department and powerful yet unattainable, in principle, which gives the writers and Sofia (de France) a lot to work with.  Jude Law was born for the role.

Jude Law in his character development seemed to be working with the notion of a dominant Master in the Leather World. He was sucking on those cigarettes as if he was getting serviced by a sub. I am just saying....

^That's an interesting observation.  I know nothing of that world and didn't make the connection at first.  But, I can see it now.  Gotta admit that I had a similar take on Diane Keaton's cigarette-after-sex character development as Sister Mary.

All caught up now.  Jude Law's Lenny aka Pope Pious XIII is venturing into Trump-Obama-lovechild territory.  I see affectations of both men in his character development.  Somehow, this show has become my favorite this season.  One gripe...Diane Keaton's Sister Mary is underutilized but its understandable considering the phallic nature of the series.

It was tough getting through the first half of first episode,I had to watch it twice, but I am so glad I did.  This is like nothing I have seen on TV. Beautifully filmed and intriguing show.

The Young Pope HBO

I was never a fan of Jude Law, but he is doing an amazing job as a Trump like Pope. It is so nice to see some of my favouriite European Actors doing great work. Silvio Orlando as Cardinal Voella steals the show, though I cannot figure why they gave him that hideous mole. He does not have that in real life.  And the beautiful French actress Ludivine Sagnier is amazing as the pious seductress Esther, doing Emmy like work. You cannot take your eyes off of her. So many emotions in her face.

I felt like their advertising over-hyped it a bit. The pace feels like much more of an indie-film that an episodic TV series. This thread has inspired me to give it another shot, but I struggled to get through the first episode.

The season finale was, well...interesting.  If the series is picked up for a second season, the creative team must deliver more than "the pretty pope" to sustain my interest.

Oh my. I thought it was amazing. Everything from the acting, the beautiful cinematography is way above anything else on TV. And the music. Everything from the title track to the background music is pitch perfect.

How could you not love that breathtaking last scene from Piazza San Marco? Breathtaking

Cant wait dor S2. So many questions. .  Is he a Saint? Is he Jesus come back to the earth? Are his parents Joseph and Mary? Is he a fraud?

It said "The End". There won't be a S2. It was a limited series. IMO, it wimped out at the end.

Everyone has said a second season is coming, but (like its fellow polarizing prestige show The Leftovers) it might not be next year.
