Why do you think people on the right believe that the entertainment industry is biased to the left? It's a business. It's only biased to what can make the most money.

"Why do you think people on the right believe that the entertainment industry is biased to the left?"

Perhaps because it so obviously is? For the same reason people think that grass is green and that winter is followed by spring.

"It's a business."

Yes. Unfortunately, one sorely wanting in entertainment, but bountiful in harangues, diatribes, and sermonizng.

Well in the past (say maybe 40's-70's?) the stereotype was that the arts would employ minorities, and allow them to be themselves, in an age when the corporate, sports and blue collar worlds would not. Hollywood films and television less so than theater and the dance worlds.

Another long-standing stereotype is that the conservative community considered  artists "sinful" with our "devils Rock n'Roll," our "perverts" and our "loose women."

You ask someone to name a work of "conservative art" and you may start with "Atlas Shrugged," Passion Plays and Christian Rock. There's more to choose from but it depends on how you define conservative. The pro-war works of Michael Bay or the later plays of David Mamet could fall under that umbrella and they tend to raise the hackles of "liberal" critics.

Because the actors are the most visible and hence, receive the most attention.  Not to mention "performing arts" are conditionally liberal by nature, though not equally proportionate to every minority and not without flaws, but generally more liberal than non-creative industries.  It's really just 2+2=4.

In my opinion, folks in the arts tend to be more liberal because the occupation inherently requires you to spend time in another person's life.  This promotes empathy, respect, and acceptance, which are sorely lacking in conservatism.
