Is Backstage.com legitimate/worth it?

I'm a non-union actor and have been considering joining Backstage for a while now. I've been given both negative and positive feedback about it, some saying that it's a scam and others saying that it's very reliable and has helped to get them jobs. Does anybody have any personal experience with the website, or know anybody who does? They are offering a New Year special price that I thought I might take up. Before making the payment, I was hoping to gather some more opinions to make sure that I'm not wasting my money.

As far as theatre goes, I can't imagine that it is as essential as it used to be. At one time Backstage was the easiest way to see all the current audition notices together in one place, but I think you would be hard pressed to find any audition notices that are only posted on Backstage and none of the other sites such as Playbill or even here on BroadwayWorld.

 

(I don't know if the same holds true for film or television, if you're also interested in those mediums)

Thanks for your info. I am interested in theatre as well as film & television, and I will be looking at all three mediums if I join.
