Dear Evan Hansen Stage Door |
Also was at stage door today after seeing the show a few months ago...while very busy, everyone was nice and helpful.
There is more to this story.
Jessica Lange never came out of the stage door.
What hasn't been considered is that Ben Platt might be going through a similar situation. I give him credit for handling things as well as he has.
Overhead shot by Erich Bergen. Wow.

@z5- ok that's hilarious. You and I exchange playbills via mail but we happened to be at the DEH stage door on the same day at the same time and had no idea!! (I generally avoid Manhattan on the weekends). Too funny.
greenifyme2 and @z5, did any of the other cast members besides Ben Platt come out on Sunday to sign as well?

Jesus. That street doesn't have wide sidewalks. How far out into the road are they? Someone is going to get hit by a car. And it's worse that the people who are forced the farthest into traffic are normal pedestrians walking around the crowd.
@mikem - Jennifer came out first and then Ben. TBH I just wanted Ben's signature so I left immediately after that. From what I could tell on socials, Laura and Rachel also came out.
@VintageSnarker - I was there, it really was fine. Easy enough for passerbys to use the sidewalk on the other side of the street. If they choose to walk around the crowd, it's the same thing as jaywalking or crossing the street before the crosswalk turns green. No need to blow it out of proportion.
It's funny. When I saw Dear Evan Hansen I had zero interest to stage door. It's amazing how huge the crowds have become. If I saw it today, I still wouldn't want to, even though I do partake in it. I did tell Mike Faist in the bathroom at the midnight showing of A Doll's House Part 2, what a terrfic singer I thought he was.
Im confused, do you need a ticket to the showto
go stage dooring? Bc I can't afford a ticket but was hoping to get an autograph but I started reading this message board and it seems like I do need a ticket.

No, but you should.

No, but I heard that those who don't have a ticket need to go to a separate part of the barrier from those who have a ticket. But it's no big deal, I'm sure the actors still stop at that spot.
Wow...when I think back to my off-Broadway stage door experience. There were like 10 of us in the lobby of the theatre...??
Can anyone confirm if there is a section for people who saw the show because I'm seeing it on Sunday and that would be lovely. I think more shows should do that, honestly.
I did not notice anything blocked off for people who had seen the show versus those who had not last weekend. However, Ben was out, and while still crazy, the crowd size was considerably smaller than it was last time I was there.
If i'm out at the stage door by 9:30 for an 8pm show, will I get a good spot? I'm going to the matinee that day but can't stage door until the evening.
I saw the show on Sunday and I got right out of the theater. Luckily, they had a huge section for people who saw the show. They hadn't put out the barricades for this section until they saw people coming out of the theater. People hadn't seen the show were kept in front of one barricade. I was able to get right up in front by the stage door itself. It was a great experience. Everyone came out except for Ben and Mike. Rachael, Michael, and Will were out during the show, but their understudies (Garret, Asa, and Michael) all came out and signed.
Probably not, but to be honest once the doors open and people start coming out they have no way of controlling who stands were, so if you were to wait and little and walk with the crowd and I think you should be fine. They weren't checking tickets or anything.
why does everyone say that the deh stage door is crazy? I went tonight and it was pretty calm, I left before ben came out but as i drove by as ben was signing it didn't seem that crazy, just a lot of people with their phones out

Because it varies depending on the day. Also, it's hard to tell how much yelling and pushing is going on from a car.
The Kinky Boots stage door was so crazy tonight that Brendon Urie isn't going to be coming out anymore.

we drove right past with out windows open- wasn't too crazy last night though!
I also drove past kinky boots, that stage door definitely looked crazy!
For God's sake, leave the man alone. Ben and the cast deserve to go home after their shows, and not feel obligated to appear for the crazy teen stalker crowd.
Furthermore, how many people are getting autographs to sell on Ebay?

Y'know it sucks when people we're simply having a discussion about the best way to approach the stage door and you immediately turn it into a negative. I stage door to THANK the performers and if I get autographs and pics, awesome, but that's never a given. I truly can't stand the people that post about it such as you who simply jump to the negative and tell people to leave them alone and that we're selling to ebay.
