I'm classically trained but along with a couple ladies, will be collaborating with the theater department to put together a musical. We were told to give a list for their consideration. I am VERY ignorant when it comes to musicals but been researching and made this top 5, solely based on the voice type of the leading baritones:
Follies
Wonderful Town
Carousel
Jekyll&Hyde
Oklahoma
The problem is - most of these musicals seem to have a huge cast, especially Follies. We will have an orchestra and some budget and will definitely get help with directing. What we lack will be a big cast. We have a tenor shortage and would rather not involve a ton of people, especially a huge ensemble. Which of these musicals can be cut down to smaller casts - let's say 10ish? Are there any other challenges I should know of?
