And yes, I'm serious. It's not like a can't sing at all, it's just that I never trained. I want to join a musical theatre class in a local school, but you have to audition to get in and I have no idea of what to sing, the only thing i've ever done (besides singing in the shower) was two days at school choir before it got cancelled. I'm a female, 19, and a mezzo. Do you have any suggestions for me, please?

Well...what musicals do you like or what popular music do you listen to?  Due to the fact that you are not a natural singer, it is important to choose something you are REALLY familiar.  Let me know I might be able to help.

I like a bunch, but to name a few I'd say Hamilton, Wicked, The Lion King, Waitress, The Color Purple, The Last Five Years, Newsies, The Sound Of Music, Les Miz, as for popular music, i believe it's safe to say that i listen to a bit of everything.

Ok, some suggestions I have for you are..."Superboy and the Invisible Girl" from "Next to Normal" is a good song to show emotion.  If you can carry the emotion, you might get away without having a strong singing voice.  Work on using your chest voice for the higher notes and show the frustration of the song.  

Also, from "Waitress" "She Used to Be Mine" might allow you to speak/talk your through the song.  But again, you can't get away from NOT singing in a musical setting, so you will have to work on belting the end of the song.

The role of Anna in The King and I was written for a woman who did not have a great range. The range of her songs as originally written is 5-6 notes. Get the original 1951 recording. Later versions all seem to have Anna as a soaring soprano which she isn't.

Lauren Bacall (granted nearly a baritone) did two musicals, Applause and Woman of the Year. Listen to those songs of hers.

Ruth in Wonderful Town was written for Roz Russell, also basically a baritone, and are really syncopated rather that sung.
