Audition Song#1

Hi Everyone!

I am in need of some advice. I am auditioning for Cinderella at my school. In my Musical Theatre class I sang the song I was going to sing for the audition, Could I Leave You from Follies. Everyone in my class loved it, but my teacher told me that it would make her incredibly uncomfortable to see a 17 year old talking about such an adult subject. I am conflicted because I love this song so much and I relate to the song very much. The problem is, this song could cost me a good part in Cinderella. Should I stick with it or change to a song I don't really relate to?

Hi Vivian!

After listening to the song, I noticed it does have a very adult theme for such a light-hearted show as Cinderella. If you think it does relate to you that much, try looking at the song from a lighter point of view, as to not make your director uncomfortable. On the other hand, if you want to find a new song that fits the vocal range of Could I l Leave You, I would go with "Adelaide's Lament" from Guys and Dolls, or "Wait" from Sweeney Todd.

While typing this I noticed it's been a long time since you posted this, so I hope it's not too late! Break a leg! :)
