Hello - I'm new to the board and looking for some help planning a Spring visit to NY. I already plan to see DEH, Comet, Hello Dolly and Amelie. I have time for two more shows and I'm debating three options: Anastasia, Groundhog Day or Come From Away. Thoughts or suggestions?  Thanks!

Seen both Groundhog Day and Come From Away and both are excellent.

Come From Away is the funniest new musical since Mormon.

The ones I'm most excited about out of these are Anastasia and Come From Away. I've been waiting for someone to turn Anastasia into a musical for years and years, I love the story and the music so much. Come From Away I'm just so intrigued by the story and I've heard nothing but praise from the Out Of Town tryouts.

Greatly disliked the Groundhog Day movie as a kid, so I'm just not interested in that one much.

Also really excited about Bandstand, which I totally fell in love with at Paper Mill last year, so I'll just throw that out there, even though it's not on your list.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. Come From Away and Anastasia are how I'm leaning at the moment. I am intrigued by Bandstand. I've seen Laura in concert twice and loved it both times. I'll add it to my list of possibilities. I wish I had time to squeeze in a few more shows this trip. So many interesting options to choose from. It's a good problem to have I guess.

I'm headed to New York at the end of April.  I've seen Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away and Amelie,  They are all very good shows, with DEH being truly wonderful, flesh and moving.  In addition to the shows you've all mention I'm particularly interested in War Paint.  And as you probably know Sweeney Todd announced their second cast with Norm Lewis and Carolee Carmello.  it depends on when you are coming in the spring but that sounds like a unique Sondheim experience.  How many days and time slots do you have?

My trip is planned for the first week of May. I will be able to fit in a total of 7 shows. I've already purchased tickets for Amelie and Hello Dolly. I plan to purchase tickets for DEH this week. And I'm watching for Comet tickets to extend into May. Charlie will wind up on the list too. Mainly because it has a Sunday evening performance whereas the others do not.

Thanks for the reminder on Sweeney Todd. Another great option. I try to make it to NY once each Spring. I don't remember ever having so much trouble making decisions. Just as I'm ready to finalize things, I find myself torn once more.

I'll be there first week of May too and am leaving the day before Golden Apple opens at Encores Spring Visit.   This  spring it's going to be impossible to see everything event in the almost 2 weeks I'm going to be there.  Got  Dolly, Groundhog Day, War Paint, Sweeney, Sunset Blvd. so far. I'm checking a couple of times each day for the extension of "Comet" past April 23.  And I am waiting for discounts for Anastasia, Significant Other, Bandstand and Charlie because prices for shows have gone up markedly this season.  I am hoping that Sweat and Ride the Cyclone might transfer and that Gently Down The Stream with Harvery Fierstein might extend at the Public - all making it even more difficult to choose.  Next spring is shaping up to be a very full season.

Yea, the season is packed indeed. I'll probably come to NY end of May/early June and I'm already nervous I may not be able to fit everything, considering how long my list is and how far away it still is, i.e. how many more things might end up on the list until then... Crazy season. It's gonna be a blood bath post Tonys...

They haven't extended the schedule yet, but it's likely that "Spamilton" will have 7 PM shows on Sunday night at the Triad.

Yes, due to the packed season, I know I won't be able to see everything I want to see. So now I'm trying to account for which shows I'm likely to see on tour, and which shows I want to for sure see on a NY stage.

Thanks for the advice on additional Sunday evening options. I'll check out some of these other choices.

Come From Away is not to be missed. People in Seattle are still saying it's the best show they've seen almost a year after it performed here. It's truly a life changing piece of theatre.
