What am I missing? I can't for the life of me think of a motive for an Upper East Side murder that was so brutal. And now it seems there is a gay angle.

I feel like it has something to do with drugs and sexual abuse of the two men that have been arrested. This is all a guess. Nobody has talked about the two women at the apartment so I am wondering if they left before the murder. The murder and failed cover up was so extreme, like something out of a movie.
