I'm doing a survey for one of my classes it should only take 2 minutes at most. It's one question. Please rank the shows from 1-4, 1 being your favorite and 4 being your least favorite.

The question is not phrased to allow for only four options.  It doesn't make sense.  The question itself is inclusive of all musicals ever written and many here would not even consider one of those four.

Yikes...these are the four options for "Greatest Broadway Musical of all time"?

 

There should be a "None of the Above" option.

And why would we do that if the question doesn't ask for a ranking or define "greatest written", which may have nothing to do with the subjectivity of a "favorite"?

The question is to select what you believe is the greatest written musical of all time.  There are only four choices.  The instructions are to rank them from your favorite to your least favorite.

No, it is not phrased fine.  No, it does not make sense.  It is an open-ended question requesting a single selection that implies a judgment based on the composition and structure of the book and score of a musical.  The limited choices are based on the subjectivity of the auditor.  The instructions request a ranking based on personal enjoyment rather than the academic analysis the question implies.  Now, there are those whose "favorites" align with shows they consider the "greatest written", but to answer the survey fairly, those selections would have to include ALL FOUR of the choices presented by the auditor. 

Therefore, the survey, as written, is intended for a very narrow group of subjects if it is to be answered honestly and, as written, is incredibly biased in favor of the opinions of the auditor.

Please rank the Presidents from 1-4, 1 being your favorite and 4 being your least favorite.

OP, I just completed this. You probably should've asked us to rate "the following four musicals from 1 to 4 based on personal preference"...

As others here have suggested, the "Best Musical of All Time" should not be limited to these four choices...
