Just got around to it today. Only got half way through episode 2 and I absolutely adore it. Stephen Daldry's direction is impeccable(he must have a love affair with the queen or something). I love John lithgow as Churchill. It's a casting that I would never picture yet it's so genius and claire foy is giving a star turning performance.
Check out Peter Morgan, Stephen Daldry and the cast on (national treasure) Charlie Rose.
Haven't started yet, but looks great! Of course I wouldn't be taking any of it as historically accurate or anything, but it's fun "faction".
I watched the first episode and I find the story intriguing, but both the pacing and the emotional content seemed glacial. I'm not sure why, but the script seemed rather repetitive with a lot of filler to sort of dance around the plot points they wanted to hint at, but save the reveal (for those not familiar with the history of the royals). While watching it, I kept wondering how long the episode was going to be. It seemed like four hours. Maybe it was just my mood that night, but it reminded me of everything I disliked about Parade's End.
My partner and I binged nine out of the ten episodes this weekend. We love it. Will watch the finale on Saturday. Really well put together and excellent acting all around. Hope it is picked up for future seasons!
Finished it today. I'm not sure how much of it was fabricated, but I thought it was extremely interesting! I thought the Margaret story line was the best. I couldn't help but bawl when the queen denied Margarets marriage. This cast and show should definitely be awknowledged for such amazing work! I can't wait to see what future seasons! I wonder if they'll ever get to the Margaret thatcher time period.
I'm only on episode 3, but I'm really loving it so far. The cast is fantastic and it is just an incredible feast for the eyes. I thought episode 2 was particularly moving, especially at the very end of the episode when Queen Mary came in and dropped into such a deep curtsy for her new sovereign. I didn't think I could be so moved by events that happened to the British royal family over sixty years ago, but I definitely was.
I actually rewatched an episode today- the one where she calls out the prime minister and the other cabinet member- such a chilling scene. Really shows you how important the queen is.
I finished the whole season a few days ago and can't stop thinking about. I'm a bit shocked that more people aren't talking about it. I do hope that they are able to execute the full six season plan. I know they'll have to replace the actors eventually which makes me a little sad- I've grown quite attached to this cast and their portrayals and can't wait for season two.
Claire Foy is giving a masterful performance. It is so controlled, so retrained and yet so seemingly effortless. She is a star in the making and I can't wait for her future. I did some reading about her and was thrilled to realize that I saw her in Macbeth in London a few years ago. She is so talented and I hope she wins an award or two.
Lithgow's scenes with the painter in episode nine are masterworks in acting, writing, and direction. Truly moving and expertly executed. Blew me away.
The production values, writing, direction, and especially the performances are all top notch. Even if British history or royalty doesn't interest you much, I can't imagine anyone who takes a chance on this series won't be seduced. Just glorious!
