17 AND BROADWAY???#1

I have loved music my entire life. There's not one moment behind telling my parents I wanted to be a doctor, lawyer, etc, that I wanted to just sing/act/dance my whole life. Now, I'm almost 17, I've been in a choir for 4 years and I discovered broadway a year ago and I would really love to be apart of it. Just seeing interviews people singing live just seems to speak to me. I love singing but I'm terrified of telling my parents I want to seek that as a life. I want to minor in musical theatre but I can't do any singing lessons yet, except choir, until college because my parents wouldn't allow it. Any advice on too late to dance/act/sing? Any advice overall? I want to be happy and singing is my happiness. Thank you! :)

First, I think it's rather sad that your parents don't encourage a acting/singing career on Broadway. Music is one of the most powerful things in this world, and should totally be encouraged.

Obviously, stay with your choir, and practice all that you can. Keep your voice healthy, and depending on where you live, try to get into community theater productions or ones at your school, if it's offered.

The main thing is to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!! :) Watch videos of well known Broadway singers, especially performers who share your voice part (are you a soprano, mezzo soprano, or (contra)alto?) How much time are you willing to put in to get better and improve your voice? Talk to your director and share your dreams. Tell them that you are taking this seriously and want to make your Broadway dream come true. Good luck with the rest of your high school career! :)
