Sia Tour

Anyone else gone to this? Saw her tonight at Barclays. It's basically a series of vignettes. She stands to the stage right side and sings. And the dancers perform. Paul Dano and Kristen Wiig make cameos via video. It's def. a weird concert. I mean, it's not really a concert. There's no audience interaction. There's weird videos between each song. It's very different. Not in a bad way, but not in a good way. It didn't feel personal enough. I mean, I LOVE Sia. But I just didn't feel like it matter if I saw her live or via video. My friends have this theory that she doesn't tour and instead it's just a person in a wig because the videos are all prerecorded and there's no live video at the concert, so we never know if it's actually her or not.

I had wanted to but could not. She is painfully shy which is why she was only a songwriter for long time. I love her too. How did she sound?

Her vocals were amazing! I LOVE her voice. And I get that she's shy, but honestly I'd love to just see her with a piano and hear her soaring vocals rather than watch her dancers dancing. 

The videos were all beautifully shot, but prerecorded, so there was no live video of what was actually happening on stage. So it's all a bit confusing.

Is she painfully shy though? When I saw her perform with Zero 7 she didn't seem to have a problem.

I was going to splurge and buy a floor seat because she's one of my favorite artists, but then my friend was like...she's just gonna stand there in a wig...and she did. So glad I opted for the higher up seats.

She's not shy-she doesn't want fame. She doesn't want her face branded to her music. I adore Sia-love all her music, but I couldn't plunk down the cash to see her sing with a wig on in the dark. I realized one of my joys of live performance is seeing the performer emote with their face during song-especially her songs.

I support all artists in whatever choices they make, but this one I feel is a little silly. I mean, everyone knows what she looks like at this point. I think its a tad disrespectful to fans. I don't want to see dancers, I want to see her sing. But whatever, its her choice. She got paid an obscene amount of money to tour since she vowed to never do it again.

Doesn't her face get hot as hell, covered by hair. Good god.

In the superficial and ageist music business, would she have had the same success if people had actually seen her as herself? Not to be cynical, I think it was genius - but it's a bit like The Voice blind auditions on a larger scale. I guess she's stuck with it now, in any case.

Well, yes and no. I mean, if you're a true fan - back to her "Breathe Me" days - then you know what she looks like. So, for me, I don't care. Her voice/writing is incredible, and that's what I support. However, I get that pop music needs a gimmick, and this is her gimmick. But, that said, as a true fan, I I go back row seats because I know she's just going to stand there in a wig, and we won't even know if it's actually her up there or not. Which is a bit disappointing because I really like her and her music and I want to see HER not some little girl from Dance Moms. 

Maybe in the years to come she'll drop the gimmick a la Lady Gaga. She's brilliant and I hope she keeps writing and making music. 

That said, the concert is great and a lot of fun, but don't spend big bucks.

Of course not.  She had a gimmick, and that is what caught on.

I like her gimmick. I much rather would see her standing in a wing and singing live than to lipsynch and do all these dance moves like Beyonce.

Plus in the years of Khardasians doing everything they can to get attention but have talent, it is a nice difference to have talent and not want all that attention

Agreed, but it's so hard to tell who is singing live vs. recordings. I mean, the vocal sounded live when I saw it - but as my friend said - we never saw her address the audience, say anything specific to NYC, etc. So, for all we know she's off stage singing with the band, and some other person is in the wig and dress on stage. That's the part that annoyed me. I want to see Sia. Not some standin.

I think it's always her who's singing on stage. I've never been to a concert live, but I have seen her face. The mask only covers so much, and you can easily see her mouth and jaw, which are identifiable. I love her singing and I adore Maddie's dancing. So I'm so glad I can get to see both!

I saw her tour in 2010 and it remains one of the best concerts I've seen. Seeing her in a small venue (without a wig too!) is quite incredible. I wish she skipped arenas and did a few performances at Radio City and other large concert halls throughout the country. The style of this tour is very theatrical and would work better in a proscenium.

Agreed! There is nothing "arena" about this tour and not sure why she chose that route except to make more money? It would have been beautiful at Radio City!

And Jane, yes and no! I wasn't close enough to see her face moving, or see if it was Maddie. Could have just been a short adult in a wig. The concert footage is prerecorded with celebs instead of the actual people on stage. So you aren't sure who you are seeing. And the only time she actually addressed the crowd was in a complete blackout.

Sia has made a point to do almost none of that. Her first five albums (released from 1997-2010) barely registered in the United States, but the brush with fame was enough to convince her she wanted no more of it. The breaking point was when a fan asked Sia for a photograph, just as a friend was telling her that she had cancer. It led her to seek the anonymity of writing songs for others such as Beyoncé and Rihanna.
