So I'm playing piano in the pit for a musical for the first time. To any other pit musicians, what are some things you wish you'd known the first time you played in an orchestra?

Congratulations!  Been doing it 14 years now.  Happy to answer any specific questions you may have, but basically just make sure you know the music cold, and you LISTEN to what's going on around you.  Feel the dynamic shifts, watch the conductor, you'll be fine.  Pit Member Tips?  What show is it?

It's The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. I was originally playing Synthesizer, but they couldn't find a pianist, so I'm playing Piano and merging in the important Synth parts.

I guess my main concern is being able to look between the sheet music and watching the conductor for dynamics.

That's a relatively difficult book.  You'll probably end up keeping your eyes on the page while watching the conductor out of the corner of your eyes (or, more specifically, the top edge of your eyes).  Should be a fun show!
