Your local/state races. |
there are these commercials that I'm dreading! It's an anti Rauner commercial that shows a video of Rauner saying he'll support the republican nominee. And it just keeps replaying over and over again with a voiceover saying hoe Rauner supports trump. Even though, 1) in the video Rauner never said he supported trump and it was taken prior to trump getting elected and 2) Rauner himself has said he won't support trump:
There's nothing worth mentioning here in Maryland. Chris Van Hollen will easily win the Senate seat being vacated by Barbara Mikulski. The congressional districts are so heavily gerrymandered (here's mine!) that there's little suspense there, either.
I will be almost (almost) as happy if Marco Rubio (who I happily voted against twice now) loses his Senste seat as I will when Trump loses.
My name is neither "adam" nor "greer."
I keep worrying about Scott Garrett for congress where I live. It's such a weird district. Like I live in Sussex County, which is Republican land. But, part of it is Bergen, which is heavily Democratic. I hope he loses. He's such a bigot and claimed he was against the government shut down over the Affordable Care Act, but then said it needed to happen because he was against the ACA. So basically he is a do nothing unless things go his way.
I live in New Jersey now, so this is a pretty uneventful election cycle for me. No senate, no governor -- although gubernatorial candidates are already beginning to campaign for next year. My congressional district is reliably democratic, although our representative (Donald Norcross) is one of the most corrupt members of congress around. I will not be voting for him or for the republican candidate (a Trump loyalist); I'll be writing in my own candidate.
There are also two public questions on the ballot in NJ this year: a move to allow casinos to be built in North Jersey (I'm voting no) and an initiative to allocate all gas tax revenues to transportation-related projects (I'm voting yes).
Is every state holding a gas tax referendum? Illinois has one too.
I'm in the bluest part of Maryland, so my senate and house choices will win easily. I like having that security, but I wish I were able to help dems retake a chamber of Congress.
The most annoying race for me, even more than the presidential race, is for my state assembly person. It's between the incumbent Republican and the (Democrat) former Assemblywoman she defeated in the last election. It's like this ugly grudge rematch, and both women are horrible. Every single day, my mailbox is literally stuffed full with mailers from the two of them, in which they just attack each other. I'm at the point where I want to vote for none of the above (though I already voted for the Democrat).

Duckworth is in the driver's seat - Kirk is awful!
I always thought Kirk was a somewhat tolerable Republican (although I would never have voted for him), but his racist and xenophobic attack on Duckworth's family was beyond the pale. I hope he loses, and loses badly.
