Sunset Boulevard Revival Broadway Thread

green- for most performances during this run, I would've said to wait till it was closer and perhaps those seats aren't actually sold yet, but for the closing performance, I would not be shocked if they were already sold.  If you want that close of a seat, I'd go to the box office and see what the story is.  I didn't see "low vision" anywhere - and don't think there's ever been a thing that those seats were held for a specific reason.  If anything, those were normally premium seats selling for $299.

That being said, I sat in row F the other night - a few seats in from the right and had a perfect view.  The whole orchestra, you really can't go wrong with any of the seats.

(Fingers crossed - maybe they'll make a surprise announcement that this final performance will be filmed)

When I heard that a revival would be staged in London, I immediately thought I'd have to make the trip because I'd missed the original Broadway production. But then I read that it was to be a minimalist staging, so I decided not to make the trans-Atlantic journey just for that. 

Needless to say, I was both surprised and thrilled to hear that the show would get a Broadway run. And I don't see why you should feel embarrassed that you've seen it four times; I've been five times and have absolutely not regrets (I wish I could make the closing performance). To borrow an expression from RENT, "No day but today!"

Chernjam- thanks for the input! I was totally assuming  the same thing, but like you said, it was worth going to the box office to check it out. I stopped by today after work- To my surprise, Seat C1 was available for the final performance ($149) so I grabbed it. A little more than I wanted to spend (too many great shows this season added up fast even with the lotteries and discounts). I had talked to someone else who won that seat in the lottery, but the box office was willing to sell it to me and I wasn't willing to risk what I would it get something great through the lottery for the final performance if there is a lottery at all. I've never been to a closing performance before. I love this show.  am SO excited!!

Green - that's fantastic to hear!  I was at the Closing Night of the original Sunset Blvd  on Broadway (back in 1997) - sat in almost the last row of the balcony and paid $75 at the time - so with inflation and all - that's not so bad!    It really was an amazing experience (even if it was starring Elaine Paige, who I think ruined the show's broadway run with her Norma) - the atmosphere was amazing, and there were some celebs in the audience, and Elaine made a curtain speech.  Don't be surprised if Close does as well or if ALW shows up or something.  And now you've got amazing seats for it.

I cannot wait to hear the reports on closing night Sunday. Oh, how I wish I could be there. I had the good fortune to catch the 5/6 matinee when I was in town to see Barbra at Barclays, and I honestly have to say that Sunset rivaled Barbra for the highlight of the weekend. It's just such a gorgeous, wonderful production, with that orchestra washing over you for two and a half glorious hours. And Glenn's performance is one for the ages. I know people have their issues with Michael Xavier, but, for the most part, I thoroughly enjoyed him in the role. This revival earned a spot in the upper echelon of my favorite theatre experiences.

I will be entering the lottery and rushing at 11:00am since the box office opens 12 on Sunday for the closing performance!! Hopefully I'll be able to get a ticket one way or another...... still hesitating to buy full-price tickets, had spent a lot already on broadway this season! Really hoping I can catch the closing performance since I am a huge fan of Michael Xavier... crossing my fingers!

I'm sure someone's already asked this, so apologies for being redundant – but where are seats bought from TKTS usually located? I'm popping into the city tomorrow and really want to see it before it closes, but I admit I'm the type that can't enjoy a show if I'm too far away from the stage and if the seats aren't relatively decent I might see something else instead. I've used TKTS a lot before (almost each time I go to Broadway) so I know availability is pretty random, but if anyone has any insight that'd be much appreciated.

It really depends on what's available.  Between the Rush tickets and Lotto tickets - and what was sold in advance - that will usually determine whats sent over to Tix.

Depending on what you want to spend, you might want to try the Sunset Box Office directly.  Tell them you have a discount code (I think NED was one of the last ones) and were wondering what offer that enabled for something in the orchestra.  I know some got $99 tix doing that.  Then again, it's closing week so there might be less available then there had been earlier this month.

Anyway - I will say - any seat in the orchestra is pretty good.  I had to stand in the rear orchestra a few weeks ago because of a delay, and I was surprised how clear a view it was even from the back of the orchestra

Caught yesterday's matinee and had mixed feelings about the show. I know Glenn Close had been ill but her singing was pretty painful to deal with. She went from chest voice to head voice without transition and sounded ragged throughout. Vocally, LuPone must have been glorious in the role.Closes acting though, was sublime.

I can't tell you where you'll likely be seated if you buy from TKTS, but I can recommend that you visit the Palace Theatre box office first. When I was there last month, I had a discount code from one of the usual sites (BroadwayBox, Playbill, or TheaterMania) and thought I'd go directly to the box office to use it, so as to avoid the Ticketmaster fees. I ended up not needing the code at all; the woman behind the window proactively offered me a $99 orchestra seat (I'd heard her offer the same deal to the people in line ahead of me as well). I got center orchestra, row F, about five seats off the center aisle on the right side. This was the fifth time I'd seen the show and it turned out to be best seat I'd had to date, even though I'd paid the premium price before.

Chris - did you think Glenn was sick yesterday?  Dolly's post was the first word of it - and when I saw her Friday, she sounded the best of the 4 times I've seen her

Her voice faltered a few times and it's nowhere where it used to be in the original production, but she's giving such an interesting amazing performance, I didn't care. I was in musical theatre heaven.

Does anyone know if for the lottery winners - does getting the 'first off' tickets handed out at the box office for the lottery represent better seats? was just curious if 1st in line may get orchestra while 10th in line might get rear mezz. Anyone know? or is that part also like the lottery - you get what is handed to you - no way to tell in advance?
