What do people think of this? Have to admit the movie is a guilty pleasure for me and my sisters. I wonder if  FREAKY FRIDAY had anything to do with this announcement?

I believe that this musical was done as part of the 1996 season. It was called Big.

"Thirty, flirty, and thriving!" 13 Going on 30 Musical I enjoyed this movie a lot back when it came out and watched it again with friends at home when I turned 30 (yes i'm in my early 30s). I think it will be interesting how they'll transform it to the stage but I'd definitely buy rush tickets for it. If I like it, then I'll splurge and buy orch or mezz seats.

I immediately had a similar thought about Freaky Friday.  While the stories are different, the concept obviously has some parallels.  Having seen  Freaky Friday (and Big), I'm just not sure this is a niche that needs filling.  I think it bears watching what ends up happening with Freaky Friday.  The party-line is that it's not planned for Broadway....but that's been said before of other shows; namely Newsies.  If it DOESN'T head to Broadway, then maybe 13 going on 30 makes more sense.

Any time someone mentions movies that would work as a musical 13 Going On 30 ends up on my list of them. Yes, Big happened ages ago and yes the plots are similar, but I feel like this has a lot of potential to be successful. The premise is charming and with the right score and lead, it could be great.

Isn't Freaky Friday doing a run in La Jolla as well? I feel like how well it does there paired with the current run in DC will decide if there's a potential for a Broadway run.

Any dreamcasting for Jenna? What an incredible stage role that would be.

Yep, Freaky Friday goes to La Jolla next.  Not sure if most of the cast is staying with it or not.  Alan H Green is heading back to Broadway with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the spring.

Weren't Zachary and Weiner tied to a 17 Again musical? Did that morph into this, or do they just really like age-flipping stories?

It's two different projects but I think both 17 Again and 13 Going On 30 are apart of the same company so I think that definitely comes into play there.

As far as 17 Again's progress, another lab is happening in two weeks: https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/17-AGAIN-Musical-Based-on-Zac-Efron-Film-Gets-Fall-Lab-in-NYC-20161012

Jennifer Simard. Or Orfeh. *can't choose*

It's also part of Cleveland Playhouse's season, scheduled to run there in April and May.

Could anyone clarify, are the DC and La Jolla runs the same production or are they entirely independent regional runs? And is the Cleveland production is a separate entity as well??

Christopher Ashley is directing all three productions, so I'm assuming that it's a co-production between the three companies, thus sharing a good portion of the costs of the physical production (along with some developmental money from Disney, I'm guessing). It's typical in these cases for a majority of the cast to be in each production, but also not uncommon to replace some cast members as well as they pick up bigger (i.e. Broadway) commitments, or to have some local actors in each city filling out the ensemble.

Oh wow I cannot wait to see who gets to play this role! I think the obvious amazing comic actors like Laura Benanti or Annaleigh Ashford would be great, but I'd love to see them go in an unexpected exciting direction with someone like Uzo Aduba.

I'd love to see Ruthie Ann Miles in the role.

Oh she'd be great! She has that exuberance.

Ruthie Ann Miles would be great in this. While both are very talented I think Benanti and Ashford have aged out of the role and would not be as convincing.

On second thought I think Ruthie Ann Miles is the wrong fit for the role - - - Laura Osnes however would be spot on.

I would actually love to see Jennifer Garner originate the role herself.  I realize she's probably too old to pull it off... but I think she could pass for 30 these days - she looks terrific.  She actually has a lovely voice (see Alias or SNL hosting gig).

I also hope the creative team does their darndest to get "Thriller" and "Love is a Battlefield" rights to be in the show.  The Thriller number could potentially be a crowd-pleasing show stopper (the scene in the movie is a lot of fun)

I'm gonna get called out for this, but I could easily see Sierra Boggess in this role. I'll also echo Benanti and Ashford.
